Vaughn Gittin Jr. - 2011 Season in Review
Vaughn Gittin Jr. kicked off the 2011 Formula Drift season with a rough start but still put on a great performance for this year. Aside from his Formula Drift life he took a huge trip to Saudi Arabia for a drifting demo and filmed his KSA video with the RTR Mustang. He got involved with his HPI R/C car Ford Mustang. He even headed over to China for the WDS series and took home a victory over other American drivers such as Matt Powers and Kyle Mohan. The most insane battle at Final Fight went down in the 3rd place round as Darren McNamara and Chris Forsberg did battle one last time. On the first run Darren McNamara got over aggressive and ran into the back of Forsberg offering him an advantage. On the follow run Forsberg took it hard into the wall but at the same time (off camera almost) you can see Darren McNamara crash into the wall as well so hard he lost the back bash bar to the car. With a blown head gasket in practice just before Top 32 the Discount Tire team had an issue of what to do moving forward. They talked with Falken Tire drift supervisor Jonathan Bradford who gave them to green light to go out and just run the engine until it blew up. They found other issues that all cleared up once the alternator was disconnected. Chris Forsberg suffered a huge crash in the Top 8 letting Dai easily move on. This tandem battle was the focus of a poll earlier this month and one of the more talked about runs of the Long Beach weekend. We found this video from a camera mounted on Forsberg's little glass window in the back (we think) from the tandem runs. After the 1:00 of runs the camera keeps running as Matt Powers pops his head into the 370z for a conversation. Matt Powers come up right away and apologizes for hitting him. Aside from James Deane needing a haircut he did pretty well at ProDrift Ireland Round 1 with a car he put together in less than one week. The car was tied up coming back from Dubai and eliminated the prep time they were really looking for to get prepped for Round 1. Clearly the test went well with the Falken Tire cars since Justin Pawlak dominated Streets of Long Beach up and down. The test in North Carolina was documented by Falken Tire showing off the ASD drivers prepping the new chassis this year and doing some shakedowns in the car. A Mazda Rx-7 with a Corvette engine was paired up against Icon Motorsports rider Nick Brocha. He has a stretched and modded Kawasaki ZX10. The video was made by ICON at a track tucked away in New Mexico. The video has some great production quality to it although I am not sure it quite pitted a motorcycle against a car in anyway. I know, that may seem like a bit of an overstatement but really; it’s actually a pretty significant milestone in both mine and my brother’s career in the world of professional drifting. Both of us have been working over the past couple of years trying to make a reputation for ourselves in Canada, and Irwindale was a really nice reminder of the way things are paying off now, and how they may potentially pay off in the future. Being able to go across America and have people recognize Pat’s hachiroku really is the big payoff to me right now. It just feels like real physical solid proof of videos on the internet doing their job, and it feels damn good. Anyway, I think my other reward was getting to see my first round of Formula Drift at Irwindale. I don’t think there could've been a better place to see some of the best drifters in the world slinging their big budget cars around like toys. I'm sure everybody knows this by now, but something that struck me was how approachable a lot of the Formula D drivers actually are. Check out the Dodge Motorsports team talking it up about the Formula Drift Irwindale weekend. Neither driver was even able to run in the Top 32 due to a lack of qualifying score for ACP and a fire in Sam Hubinette's Dodge Challenger. The fire was from a fuel line issue which the team called a very rare occurrence with the product. 2010 Prodrift Ireland - Round 5 at Fermoy
Fermoy seen the return of the Prodrift Series for the final round of the championship. A championship that was still open to a number of drivers with a mathmatical chance of gaining the 2010 Prodrift Series.

Round 4 of the Prodrift Ireland series seen the annual visit to Mondello Park, Ireland’s premiere race track. Despite the damp weekend we where greeted with it, it was still an exceptional event. The video was made by Patrick McCullagh.

Here is a documentation from Justin Shreeve on his trip to Formula Drift Las Vegas. My recent trip to Las Vegas for round 5 of Formula Drift was one of minimal luxuries. Joe Ayala and I could only afford one night in a hotel and a rental car was out of the question. Day one, we got up around noon, grabbed some "breakfast" at the Blueberry Hill next to the hotel, and began our journey to the track at around two. The trek consisted of roughly 2-3 miles, on foot, in 108 degree weather. Luckily for us, we found a shopping cart to carry our backpacks, camera cases, laptop bags, and of course my skateboard. Before long, we had covered the cart in MotorMavens cards (gotta represent) and found fun stuff to do on the way, such as drifting and dirt dropping the cart on the side of Las Vegas Blvd. Joe and I had fun overall, but boy were we glad when an old woman (with a legit mustache) stopped and asked us if we needed a ride. She drove us about a quarter of a mile to the gift shop of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, complaining the whole time about how she would be late to work. Haha!

From a videographer's point of view it was a pretty hectic weekend because the meat of the event took place all on one day...I had a hell of a good time, but I certainly felt like a walking zombie by the end of the day, particularly since I was still holding on to a camera well into the night!!! But that's how night events go, and I have to admit it's a hell of a thing to see.

Cyrious Productions Presents 2010 DMCC Round 4 at Montmagny
DMCC Round 4 at Montmagny, Quebec was a pretty epic round. It went pretty good for the Drift Posse team, keeping themselves firmly planted in first place in the Team Championship. Pat Cyr ended up on the podium, with a 3rd place finish, and Brad Carlton made it into Top 16, but was taken out due to technical issues he'd been suffering all weekend. Tables turned for DMCC veteran Fred Girard however, as he was able to reverse his recent streak of bad luck to make his way to the #2 spot on the podium, with Matt Waldin keeping his presence known by scoring another big 'W'! This video also features driving from some of the best in DMCC right now with Dave Briggs, Kevin Grenier, Dominic Desrosiers to name a few!

Join us as we roll with professional drifter John Russakoff on his first outing at Ken Block's Gymkhana Grid Test/Media event held on 08/07/10 at Hollywood Park Raceway. As a special invited driver John was able to drive the course and adapt to gymkhana driving fairly quickly in his rear wheel drive AE86 Corolla. John had a chance to test his grip/slip skills at this event and in doing so was one of the fastest/quickest cars of the day! Unlike drifting, his main priority at this event is to run the course as quickly as possible, using alot of grip and minor drifting.

Ebisu is one of the hardest tracks to navigate on the D1GP circuit and Nomuken takes his Nissan Skyline and over drives the long turn resulting in the sheer destruction of his D1GP car. The rumor is that this shell will be unable to return to competition ever. Falken Takes 1st and 2nd at 2010 FD Wall Speedway
Team Falken’s Daijiro Yoshihara scored his second victory in a row at Round 3 of the Formula Drift Championship in New Jersey. Dubbed "The Gauntlet", Wall Speedway is known for its unforgiving course layout and harsh banked turn to in-field transition. For Falken, although a repeat of 2009’s Wall podium sweep was just narrowly missed, a Déjà Vu top 2 finish from this year’s Round 2 at Road Atlanta set Yoshihara and Vaughn Gittin Jr. once again on top of the podium with very close one, two finish. Vaughn in the ASD built Monster Energy / Falken Tire 2011 Ford Mustang continues to lead the series followed by Dai in his Discount Tire / Falken Tire Nissan Silvia S13 built by SPD Metalworks.

The first sequence you will see we have a camera facing backwards on Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s car and across the wing of Ryan Tuerck's Pontiac Solstice. On the second tandem run we focus Ryan Tuerck since Vaughn Gittin Jr. is the follow car. Going into that second outside clipping point Ryan Tuerck puts it in the wall hard forcing him to straighten out and lose the tandem battle. He hit the wing so hard that our camera was on it violently shook the camera off it's mounted position but stayed on the wing. The GoPro HD camera survived and we brought the footage to you at Wrecked Magazine. This video review is written by Dead Pirate Productions: Round 1 of the Xtreme Drift Circuit took place at Irwindale speedway on March 20th 2010. It was the first event for the newly started series and it went off without any problems. Drivers were on point the whole weekend. In a final four tandem that put Brian Peter against Jeff Jones we saw a pretty insane crash caught by the Wrecked Magazine staff. The wreck has Brian Peter going a little too wide into the outside clipping point off the bank. The car contacts the wall, swings around and smacks the wall on the side and sends the V8 powered Mazda airborne. Brian got out of the car right away and was fine.
