The car was unveiled to the public last year at the 2010 UTI Tech Day and now lives on in Forza Motorsport 3 and is quite accurate. The carbon fiber hood features the Seibon Carbon logos and the front bumper (which varies a little from our Origin front) has KW Suspension stickers in place. The sideskirt roll call covers KoyoRad, NRG, B&M, Injen, and Performance Friction Brakes. The rear quarter panel is covered with Wrecked Magazine and the window decals are sadly missing since you cannot add those in the Forza 3 designer. What a fun project getting this immaculate 350z together!
Project 350z has graced the homepage of the UTI website yet again! The main website image talks about “Turn Your Passion into Your Profession,” with classes starting every three weeks at UTI. The main image features two cars including a factory Shelby GT500 and the Wrecked Magazine Project 350z. Below is a bigger screen capture of just the main website images with the 350z!
Issue 16 of Nissan Sport Magazine has a new Vortech Supercharger advertisement featuring our Project 350z. If you open up the magazine you will find the advertisement towards the center of the book featuring our Project 350z to promote the VQ35 supercharger kit which we love.
Here is the Vortech Supercharger advertisement showing off your Project 350z and the V-3 system we are running. We want to thank Vortech Superchargers for putting our car in their new advertisement! If you are looking for power out of your VQ35/VQ37 engine make Vortech your first choice.
While being just five pounds of metal, it single-handedly decides the volume of air in and out of the motor. Brian Crower Cams has taken the import scene by force creating up to five stages of cams for unyielding motors. We got our hands on their stage two cam for our Project 350z and dug right in! Note that installing camshafts is a long and tedious job and sadly the way the 350z loads the camshaft the engine must be pulled adding tons of time to the installation. So to keep the article under novel status we have cut down the process. Purchasing a factory service manual such as the Chilton’s Nissan 350z Manual is recommended as it will let you reference anything needed on the motor.
First order of business is to disconnect the battery. Remove the strut bar, intake assembly, cooling fan. Drain all fluids and remove all hoses going to the front of the motor.
Once the motor is removed you will need to remove the upper intake manifold. The lower manifold and fuel assembly can stay put unless you plan an upgrade while it’s apart.
Remove the a/c compressor, power steering pump, and alternator. You have just enough room to move them to the side and not disconnect completely. Now remove all remaining brackets on the timing cover. Then next remove the Timing cover which you can see completed above. Now remove the timing chain and primary timing sprocket assemblies (for those who always wondered how VVT worked, this is how variable valve timing is controlled).
Now we can take off the valve covers and look at those useless factory cams. Remove the camshaft position sensor and intake valve timing control solenoid. (Be very careful not to let any metal shavings or magnets near the camshaft position sensor.)
Loosen the camshaft bracket bolts in several passes to alleviate the pressure and prevent any possible damage or bodily harm. With that complete you can remove the factory camshafts.
This is the new Brian Crower cam that we are going to install. It is a Stage 2 High Performance/Race camshaft. The cam has a short duration but is a very street-able camshaft for daily driving and performance. The camshaft has a slight pitch or lope at idle which you will notice after installation. You can run an OEM spring which we opted to do with the BC cams.
Now you have to repeat this on the other bank of cams to complete the Brian Crower camshaft installation. You just do the installation in the reverse of disassembly with the exception of aligning the new camshafts. Consult your factory service manual for the correct alignment procedure.
Check out the 2010 issue of REQ Magazine with our Project 350z on the front cover. It is actually also featured on the back cover of the magazine as well so big time love to our Project Car that UTI helped us out with. The car has a full featured write up on the inside and a Wrecked Magazine advertisement so make sure at your next event you swing by the UTI booth and grab a copy of REQ Magazine and check out our feature.
Check out this video made by the guys at Vortech Superchargers from the Stillen Open House weekend. Our Project 350z is featured in here along with the Stillen 370z which debuted it’s new supercharger kit at the event.
The Vortech Supercharger booth was packed all day with people at the Stillen Open House/Nissan Meet in Costa Mesa, California. We swung by in the morning to check out the booth and see how our Project 350z has been doing. Here is a motor shot to check out our Vortech supercharger.
After hanging out around the Vortech Supercharger booth for a while I walked around and snapped some photos of other cars at the meet I liked. Here are a few bonus photos from my visit.
The guys at Vortech Supercharger asked to have our Project 350z at the Stillen Open House this Saturday. The Wrecked Magazine x UTI Project 350z rolled into the Streets of Long Beach Formula Drift Round 1 for it’s first public showing. We rolled it out onto the starting grid for a REQ Magazine shoot.
Here is a snapshot showing off our huge rear HRE wheels and Falken FK452 tires on the flat white 350z. You can see our Wrecked Magazine sticker on the rear quarter panel as well.
Here is the front of the Nissan 350z all finished. We are so thankful to all of our sponsors who made this project happen. We still have a few more installs to feature on the blog/magazine coming up in the next few weeks.
Our Project 350z was 99% done when it arrived at Formula Drift Long Beach and Mickey Andre from Race Design got the car 100% ready. Mickey was sadly busy when we needed our car wrapped but he saved us by installing some last minute stickers and our custom Formula Drift number plates before our REQ Magazine shoot.
