OMG a new blog?! ROGUE STATUS drift training!

July 25th, 2009

I know, I know, its been an eternity since I’ve blogged anything, and I have left out many, many worthwhile blog entries. I am a Formula D judge now, it’s been rewarding, and difficult and occasionally fun! I went on a 4500 mile, 2 week cross-country motorcycle trek with a dozen pals, see www.bikeblog.andrewbain.net . There’s lots more in the past, but I have no time to dwell, lets just forget the rest and move forward.

Drift coaching, I’ve been pals with the guys from Rogue Status (www.roguestatus.com) for awhile now, you have probably seen their clothing all over the place and on MTV, they are super chill dudes, and Yo (yes his name is YO) built an S13 (a real silvia K’s edition) for the Gumball 3000 rally.  It’s a pretty solid car, and he’d been talking about getting into drifting and heading to a track for a few months now. We finally got it all together a few days ago, and it was super fun. I headed to the track with Jasper and Yo from Rogue Status and Formula D driver Pat Mordaunt. We were short on time, and Yo is new to drifting, we moved right into donuts and figure 8’s, focusing on dynamic initiation and getting him to toss the car properly. Yo picked it up pretty quickly and we moved right onto running one medium sized turn. After a bit of yelling and some trips into the gravel, he really got it going.  At the end of the short, but very successful test session, Pat and I gave the car a bit of a workout on the Balcony track, it is a super fun car, and despite the seat being positioned for an NBA star, I was able to lay down a few good runs before the tires gave out. Hopefully we get back out there soon and we can continue this story…….

Don’t Watch This Video!!!!!!!

February 19th, 2009

I wanted to have a video made, to recap my 2008 year in driving, something to document this season of competion, and since the car has really progressed since Long Beach,  I figured that would be something interesting to show, as the video plays.  This is NOT that video!!!!! I needed a short teaser for some meetings i had a few weeks ago, and Josh Herron was nice enough to whip up this video for me in no time!  He just happened to show it to Joey Redmond,  who is incapable of holding any drifting media/news from his Wrecked readers, and instantly, it was on the site! I like this video,  and Josh did a great job (he always does), but this isn’t the full on TA year in drifting that is coming soon!!!

So like I said: Don’t watch this video!

2009, bloggin time!!!!!!!!!!!

February 19th, 2009

Hey gang,

It’s been a really really long time since I’ve updated this blog, and it’s time to get back on the horse! I realized that it had be so long since I’ve written an entry, that I just wanted to keep back tracking, and trying to catch up on all the things i’ve done since my last blog (thanksgiving!!!).  I’m not gonna do that,  it’s a whole new year, and we are looking ahead and not behind!

To quickly recap, so we can move forward, thanksgiving was great! We wound up with like 29 people over for the big meal, and the food turned out really well, and the timing on so many dishes was perfect. Here’s a group shot-

OK, now that I’ve wrapped up that old post. Lets talk new new new!

Thanksgiving is coming!

November 25th, 2008

We are doing a large (30 so people) Thankgiving pot-luck dinner at my house, and we are handling turkeys, seating, some drinks and sides, and our guests are all bringing a favorite dish. To help fund our feast, we decided to clear out the recycling shed. Since we have alot of people at my house, and while i mostly contribute clear glass to the recycling pile, my roomies, and our guests tend to drink alot of canned beers ($$), it should be a big help towards the dinner.

2008 SEMA recap!!! Here’s the full rundown…!

November 20th, 2008

It was an exciting year at the SEMA convention, lots of new parts, and cars to look at, and lots of exciting things to talk about.

There was a bunch of neato sparkly cars, and big engines that make alot of hp, and girls wearing next to nothing, and the parties……..oh man the parties were………..crazzzzzzzzyyyyy. My favorite part was the unveiling of this car……….. called ROCK BAND 2~!

Rock Band 2 is from a small company called harmonix, and let me tell you, this car is awesome, handles great, you can play drums, 2 guitars (one guitar, one bass guitar), and sing!!!!!!!!!!!

So first things first, find the band—–here is roomate Travis, he’s skilled in the ways of the drums, mostly, and also is pretty good on guitar-

sema4.jpg

Next we needed a bassist. Bassists are historically chosen for three things, Stage presence, Bitchin Hair, and the ability to play the bass, in that order. Filling that slot is Lindsay Ross (part time DA ace, full time rocker).

sema5.jpg

And then theres me, i can play the guitar pretty well, i’m learning on the drums, which are super fun, but wicked hard, and i can work the microphone better than those two. So here’s our first band setup……sema3.jpg

This was sweet for awhile, but then we realized, wait a minute, we have 4 instruments for the game, and we are only using 3, that just can’t be right. Also, like i said travis is about ten million times better than me on the drums, so we decided to find an old cymbal stand, tape the microphone to it, and viola; full on rock band 2!

sema1.jpg

This game rules, i know we look like 15 year old dorks, but its worth it. Spending the day with this thing cranked is SO much fun. Stopping only for drinks, and food, and checking out the oddly clear LA sky, SEMA week was awesome!!!sema2.jpg

Thanks to our gardener who we convinced to take those band pics, and BOOOO to travis’s ex-gf for taking our awesome stereo when they broke up, now rock band 2 isn’t as loud.

Christmas in September!!!

October 6th, 2008

Had an early Christmas present come in last week.
My new RX-8 Chassis, courtesy of Mazda USA.
They plucked this 09 model off the assembly line, pre-sound deadening, just for me!
Painted East Coast grey, of course, as mazda knows how to get down.
Thanks to Forsbag and Linz for helping me get this thing back home.
Big Thanks to Mazda USA for all their support!

Plans are-Figure out a bodykit for the new 09 body style
-3rotor Turbo or NA PP
-some kind of custom widebody for the rear
-Figure out a tranny setup that will hold more power, and won’t constantly explode

Visit to BH and Veilside

September 30th, 2008

I have an S13, its pretty cool, and drives well, but I don’t ever use it. I’m getting it ready to sell, and the diff was busted, needed a new carrier. My old brosef bH brian harte had one down at his veilside USA. Swung down to grab it on the way to forsbergs shop. Check him out. I made him put it in the truck for me. BH is the internet in human form.
