Well the Gumball 3000 is over and sad to say I wish I was still on the open road with 120+ cars driving somewhere. Next year’s rally seems so far but I am going to have to make it from rally to rally it looks like. If you want photograph overload of my work you can visit www.luxuryvice.com for thousands of my photos I took on the Gumball 3000 rally. If you want to hear my story in detail check out www.speedhunters.com for my diary of the rally. Below I just posted up 10 photos I really loved from the Gumball 3000 so check it out.
The American LeMans series is an entertaining one to follow through the year. I grew up just an hour away from the amazing Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta round of ALMS. Above is one of the LeMans cars I am most familar with is the LMP2 class Mazda. Thanks to the guys over at Mazda I got to see one of their LeMans effort machines at a BP station in downtown Los Angeles last year and got to hear about the new 2009 program at their motorsports luncheon (where we got free In & Out).
Our partners at Wrecked Magazine Falken Tires brought out their Porsche to do battle at ALMS which is a very exciting venture for all of our friends in Fontana at the Falken office. Here is a photo I snapped as the XM Radio Acura prepared to overtake the Falken Porsche in Turn 10. The XM Radio Acura is in another class and the pass did not change the Porsche class position.
This was the best battle I watched take place during the whole Streets of Long Beach event. These guys really duked it out for several laps and I thought the black Corvette had it in him.
I saved the best for last, this is my favorite photo of they day by far as the Ferrari soars around turn 10. The framing and detail on the race birm really make this shot gorgeous. The focal depth and bright orange cones make it one of my favorite race photos I think I have taken in some time.
The other day I was in Burbank and spotted this Jaguar Mark VIII in a parking deck. The car was made from 1956–1958. In that three year period only 6,227 were produced worldwide! If you want more information on the car I did a little write up on it at our new website.
My good buddy Gene Tjin invited me to a gallery opening by Estevan Oriol which was down the street from my place on Melrose. All the photos in this post are thanks to Gene Tjin since he beat me by a few days on his blog post and I liked his photographs. Here are some images from inside the gallery.
Some of his work was truely amazing to look at and I love the simplistic elements of his photography. In today’s highly photoshopped and over post production days of photography it was great to look at some nice black/white prints. I learned some fun stuff about Estevan Oriol as well including how he toured with Cypress Hill back in the day. Thanks again to Gene Tjin for the invite to the gallery and the pictures from his blog! Gene Tjin is a fellow automotive photographer and he currently work at MagnaFlow Exhausts.
I met up with Vincent Wong at iForged Wheels and we drove his amazing wideboy Porsche to downtown Los Angeles and conducted a photoshoot. The shoot was for Performance Auto Sound magazine and I’ll post up the issue so you can grab it when it comes out.
You might recognize this car from the Mobil 1 booth at the SEMA 2008 show. Vincent did a great job getting this car together and the paint job is just amazing! The wheel/tire combo is awesome as well and has some very aggressive staggards really helding the Porsche stand out.
On Saturday I paid a visit with some great friends and attented an awesome open house at GMG Racing. The event was quite fun and we saw some amazing exotic cars on hand including a Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari F-40, and several Porsche GT3 RS’s. GMG Racing is one of the most well known shops in Southern California for high end performance and I cannot wait to pay them a visit again for our new web project, Luxury Vice!
Going through Flickr I found these three amazing photographs documenting the Hudson River US Airways plane crash. The plane left New York heading for Charlotte when the pilot aborted route and veered over the Hudson River and safely put down the plane. Boats and ferries quickly came to the rescue of all the passengers.
I had some free time on Christmas and after reading about High School #9 on the BBC/Icecream blog myself and a buddy Jacob Agajanian wanted to go check it out. You cannot really get in, they have the place covered in fences and stuff but after driving around the school we found an overpass of the 101 and were able to snap some pictures of the side tower of the school in the background. Yes, this is a Los Angeles Unified District public school being built by the state that is going broke in like two months. On the bright side, the school looks super awesome.
Here is the first time lapse we did with it being a bit brighter outside.
Then we moved the camera once it got darker and ran another time lapse to the side of with it being much darker outside.
All in all a very fun Holiday. Finished up the night with some Indian food and NBA basketball down the street at a friends place. I should be doing more of these SLR videos when I have some free time, hoping to get some done in Las Vegas next week!
This is a time lapse I shot from a second story porch in West Hollywood yesterday. It was taken my with Digital SLR Canon 30d picture camera and interlaced together in a video. It’s almost 700 photographs and then sped up to add more motion and effect. I am going to work on some longer ones in the near future. This was mostly a test with my camera to see how it would work out. I will have quite a few of these coming out so subscribe to me on Vimeo or my Youtube.
We finally made it to Los Angeles and Urbanracer snagged the wrap up story of our cross country mission in the Infiniti G37. This photo above I took at White Sands, New Mexico after a good 2,000 miles on the trip. She doesn’t looks so bad considering we never stopped to was her off. We swung by Phoenix and hung out with Jarod DeAnda and his family in Phoenix for the evening as well which was a super blast.
