Finishing the Living Room

August 28th, 2008

So in our slow process of making the new home livable and awesome so I just scored some original movie posters for the living room. The first is The Kingdom which is an amazing film that came out in 2007. I am sucker for Jennifer Garner in this film. The second one we scored was the Ocean’s 12 prequel poster that was put in theathers before the film came to the big screen. Twelve is the new eleven! One of Steven Soderbergh’s best films he has made to date. He also gets bonus points for being born in Atlanta.

The Old Wall Speedway!

Rhys Millen and Ross Petty do battle at the Old Wall Speedway

Not to long ago Wall Speedway was home of Drifting in the the northeast and I have to admit I miss this track dearly. While going through some archived footage we dug up this awesome tandem battle with Ross Petty and Rhys Millen from the 2007 Formula D first round of Top 16. Ross Petty spent the WHOLE time before the run revving and doing burnouts at Rhys. They rolled off the bank and Ross Petty smashed right into him resulting in a zero score for him. Rhys came back and responded with some aggressive tandem right back at him. What a great race these two guys had at the Old Wall Speedway.

Day 1 of Formula D Monterrey Mexico

August 26th, 2008

After finally arriving at the track we enjoyed a few practice sessions with the Drifters at the racetrack.

Forest Wang and Tony Angelo ripped up during practice at Autodromo Monterrey.

Justin Pawlak was driving so hard he just shattered his bumper square in the middle of the track coming into the infield.

After we got back it was raining in downtown Monterrey. Here is a view from our hotel window.

A look at night outside our hotel room over Montterey, Mexico.

Surviving Monterrey Mexico – The Arrival

August 24th, 2008

So we landed a day after all the Formula D staff on Friday early morning around 9am. With everyone at the track we decided to brave a taxi cab ride for the 41 miles it took to get to the track. A 41 mile (1 hour) taxi cab ride cost roughly $27.50 American. It was safe to say our taxi driver had been taking “mind altering substances” before driving us through Monterrey. His old Dodge Neon 4 door had a grinding 2nd gear and he took off from a stop by revving his car to redline (around 7k) and slipping the clutch all the way till the car returned back to redline. I don’t have as many pics of this adventure because I didn’t bring my point/shoot in order to keep my travel gear low. I just brought a book bag for the whole weekend in Mexico. Anyways, on the the way to the track here are some places we drove past while traveling through Monterrey. Our cabbie also had to ask for directions over four times to find the race track.

Jerry Seinfeld to make Microsoft cool….

August 21st, 2008

This story should surely leave you scratching your head. Apparently Microsoft is tired of not being the “cool” brand that people seem to label with Apple and are taking a huge new marketing project to make Microsoft a hip brand. So they are paying $10,000,000 to Jerry Seinfeld to do some commercials with cool former founder of Microsoft Bill Gates. This comes as part of Microsoft’s new big marketing push estimated to be around a $300 million dollar project. Somehow a 90’s comedian/TV star and Bill Gates don’t seem like they will quite make the “hip” or “cool” bar that Apple reaches but it should be entertaining none the less. They couldn’t of found anyone else, really?

Penske Racing Rig Goes up in Flames

August 21st, 2008

Penske’s Indy racing team suffered disaster early this morning when their transporter truck – en route from the team’s headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina, to Sonoma, California – caught fire at 4 a.m. on Interstate 80 outside Cheyenne, Wyoming. The two Penske personnel on board managed to escape unharmed, but could not extinguish the fire, believed to have been caused by a faulty bearing in one of the trailer’s wheels. They detached the truck cab from the burning trailer and could do nothing more but watch as an estimated $2 million worth of equipment – including two Dallara-Honda race cars – went up in flames.

For those of you that are not total IRL nerds the Penske teams consists of Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe. Castroneves is only 78 points out of the lead from Scott Dixon. It doesn’t seem clear what Penske’s plan of action will be for the race this weekend. Read more here, grandprix.com

The Burj Dubai Tower is almost done!

August 19th, 2008

I have a friend who lives out in Dubai every other month out of the year and as every month goes by that I haven’t come to visit her she just seems to get more angry and send me tormenting photos of how awesome this place is. Myself and Jayke were suppose to go last month but due to some scheduling issues we had to move the trip to December. Anyways, the Burj Dubai Tower is now the largest building in the world with 160 habitable floors. The project cost around $4.1 billion dollars and four years to be constructed. The very top of the building or the spire will stand at approximately 818 meter off the ground or 2,684 feet. Insane, here is a picture of what is looks like currently in Dubai.
