The 4th round of the Irish Drift Championships really shook up the championship chase. Favorite James Deane ended a 3-year undefeated streak in the Top 8 when he came in too hot on entry and made contact with fellow competitor Barry Leonard. Young guns Jack Shanihan and Tomas Kiely both got knocked out in the top 16 round, which made room for some new faces on the podium. Top Qualifier John McCarthy started the weekend off strongly, but his brother Paul McCarthy would take the top step of the podium.

Here are the results:

Club Loose expands to Ireland [GRASSROOTS]

ClubLooseIreland

Over the weekend, we noticed a new fan page had been setup for Club Loose Ireland. After some digging around, it looks like this is a confirmed situation. 2009 Formula D Rookie-of-the-year Eric O’Sullivan has recently returned back to his native country (rumored with a Solstice in tow), and will be extending the grassroots organization to a new continent. Club Loose is one of the most famed grassroots organizations in the drifting community, and boasts alumni like Steve Angerman, Mats Baribeau, and Geoff Stoneback, all of which have clearly left their impact on competitive drifting events. O’Sullivan cited a lack of events in Ireland where drivers can get seat time and drive with their friends without the pressures of a competition, and hopes to offer the same sort of fun environment that Club Loose is known for.

The first event has tentatively been scheduled for May, with more details coming as they get confirmed.

Vaughn Gittin Jr & Chris Forsberg to attend IDC Round 5 / Japfest in Ireland [MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT]

IDC-Mondello-Sept28

Earlier this year, Daigo Saito and Robbie Nishida made the trip out to Ireland to compete in the Irish Drift Championship, and later this month, Chris Forsberg and Vaughn Gittin Jr will be out to compete. Forsberg will be driving the LHD S13 car built by fellow Formula D competitor Darren McNamara, while Vaughn Gittin Jr will be competing in one of the many Ford Mustang RTR’s he has around the world. These two are the latest to join the impressive roster of drivers who have made the trip to the Emerald Isle. Matt Powers was also at the same event Saito and Nishida attended, and Dai Yoshihara even drove in Ireland back in 2012 when the ProDrift series was still around. Ireland touts a 10-year undefeated streak on home soil, despite the frequent visitors from both the US as well as the UK and the rest of Europe. That streak is in serious jeopardy heading into this round at Mondello Park, which even made it on our Top 10 Drift Vacations list a few months back.

If you’re in the area and you don’t have tickets, we highly suggest you get them soon!

Dean Kearney to compete in MG Crash Repairs S15 in IDC [NEWS]

BrendenStone.ProDrift

Dean Kearney announced today that he’ll be competing in the Irish Drifting Championships (IDC) in the MG Crash Repairs S15. Kearney won the Pro Drift European Series championship in 2009, while MG Crash Repairs won the Pro Drift championship in 2012 with Brendan Stone behind the wheel (pictured above). MG Crash Repairs is the same team that loaned a car to Dai Yoshihara back in 2012 at ProDrift, where Dai won second only behind teammate Brendan Stone. Kearney mentioned in his press release that the car will have a 550hp RB26 motor, which is a pretty big change from his supercharged 8.3L Dodge Viper which he competes in for the Formula Drift championship in the US. The car is a fresh build, not the same car that Stone used in the ProDrift championship.

Kearney released a quote as well, shown below:

I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to compete in my native country again” said Dean Kearney.

“Ive been pretty much out of the Irish drift scene for 4 years now with FD commitments but I’ve always followed the scene very closely and attended several events while home as a spectators. The Irish drivers have proven themselves to be some of the strongest drivers in Europe time and time again, So having the opportunity to come back and compete in a proper competition car was always important for me. I’ve always admired the prep of MG Crash Repairs S15’s so when the opportunity came about it was pretty much a no-brainer. I started my career in a RHD S-chassis car, so it will be good to get back to my roots after competing so long in the Oracle Lighting Dodge Viper in the US. We will be testing before this weekend gets underway so I can get re-accustom to sitting on the other side of the car again.

All in all, I’m looking forward to this weekend and hope I can do Mark and the Team proud.
