Vaughn Gittin Jr. travels around the world in 2013 from Norway, Spain, Mexico, and China to compete and drift around the world with his Ford Mustang. Above is a four minute recap of his journey through the whole 2013 calendar year.
Vaughn Gittin Jr. flew out to Spain to run the Gymkhana Grid to hang out with his Monster Energy drink family/friends over in Europe. While doing so he hopped on the track and put down the second fastest RWD time of the weekend 50.2 falling just shy of Luke Fink. His time even ran close to Ken Block who was just 1.44 seconds faster in the AWD category. Vaughn is now traveling to SEMA for the week to provide demos in the Ford Out Front category of the show.
In case you need a last minute drift gift for the ultimate fan Joon Maeng has put his old competition car up for sale. This S13.5 has run in Gymkhana Grid, MotoIQ Tuner Series, and plenty of drift events. The car debuted in 2007 and was the same chassis Joon Maeng drove green. Below is a list of his modifications and information so you can be the next owner of Joon Maeng’s Nissan 240sx hatchback. Did anybody else notice that Tony Brakohiapa was running Hankook Tires this weekend at Gymkhana Grid and not Cooper Tires? The Ford Mustang looked basically the same in design but notably the big Hankook Logos with a white backdrop. Will Tony Brakiohapa being joining Rhys Millen, Chris Forsberg, and Ken Gushi as another new driver for team Hankook next year?
We visited Irwindale Speedway this weekend to check out the first ever Gymkhana Grid / Ken Block invitational. The Formula Drift drivers in attendance swept the event taking home first place in every category from AWD, RWD, and the burnout contest. Our extensive 450+ image gallery covers all the classes running ,the burnout contest, and non Formula Drift stars like Ken Block attacking the course in his AWD Ford Fiesta. Enjoy of all the action!

The Discount Tire S13 driven by Daijiro Yoshihara took home the win at the first Gymkhana Grid event in history. The crowd was light, the competition was tight and this V8 powered S13 dominated the event from start to finish. The driving skill of Dai Yoshihara and suspension/mechanic skill of Mike Kojima marks such a winning combination.
We have had a ton of drivers/teams hitting me up because they are missing from our Gymkhana Grid list that we pulled from the video was not quite complete. Here is a list from the website of what Formula Drift drivers will be attending in full. Here is the list of Formula Drift drivers PLUS I have been told that Toshiki Yoshioka is in attendance driving the Driftspeed S15. I know we have upset some people calling the event Formula G and auto-x cone drifting at Irwindale Speedway but the longer the events go on the more it just seems to be a Formula Drift moment of fame. They are at the House of Drift, a grid that is well over 50% Formula Drift drivers (per the website), they are using the Voice of Formula D Jarod DeAnda on the microphone so I don’t feel like my assumptions/words in the department are too harsh.
I also would link you to the website but the terms and conditions of the website restrict that under the section “LINKS TO THIS WEBSITE” which states this exactly, “You may not create a link to any page of this website without our prior written consent. If you do create a link to a page of this website you do so at your own risk and the exclusions and limitations set out above will apply to your use of this website by linking to it.” So uhh if you want more information about tomorrows event take the name of the event, put it together and add a .com to the end and you might find the information your looking for. Don’t worry, I screen capped their terms/conditions in case they remove it and claim I made it up.
Here is the drivers list of Formula Drift Stars:
Cody Parkhouse – APEXi Lexus SC430
Kyle Mohan – FC Mazda Rx-7
Toshiki Yoshioka – Driftspeed S15
Check out the announcement that Vaughn Gittin Jr. just made about his Gymkhana Grid car this weekend. He will be driving Ken Block’s old 78 Ford Escort Mk2 around Irwindale Speedway this weekend. The car looks pretty cool and is setup in a traditional Ken Block style graphic package while running the #25 for Vaughn Gittin Jr. and his name in the rear window.
So Gymkhana Grid just released this promotional video promoting the Irwindale Speedway event this weekend and the drivers list read like a Formula Drift event and Ken Block. Well Vaughn Gittin Jr. will be in an unknown car (well he knows but won’t tell us), Tanner Foust, ACP, Dai Yoshihara, and Stephan Verdier. Joon Maeng will also be running in his Lucas Oil S13 seen above along with possibly some other FD drivers that were not listed in the promotion. Will you be attending Gymkhana Grid or Formula G this Saturday?
