2016 USDRIFT x MDU BRO/AM EVENT AT DOMINION RACEWAY [RESULTS]

2016_USD_RD4_podium

USDrift and Midwest Drift Union joined forces earlier this month for their first ever BRO/AM collaboration event at the newly opened Dominion Raceway road course for both of their fourth and final rounds of the 2016 season. Each series would run their own Top 16 brackets with the winners from each series’ event competing against each other for bragging rights of the best on this side of the Mississippi River, as well as winning their weight in Smartmouth Brewing Company beer.

Repeating a similar end to that of the 2015 season, Austin Meeks from Spartanburg, SC would win the last event of the USDrift season again. This time Meeks would win in his Committed Service Brand swapped LSX V8-powered 1996 Nissan 240SX running on Achilles Radial Tires. Riley Sexsmith, from Hamilton, Ontario in his 2007 NV Auto 2JZ powered Subaru Impreza STI running on Achilles Radial Tires would take the win in the last event of the Midwest Drift Union season.

Since the final tandem was an exhibition match, the judges from both series would vote and if there was a tie, the announcer would cast the deciding vote with help from the crowd if needed. However, after both runs, the judges went with 3 votes for Meeks, 2 votes for Sexsmith, and 1 vote for a “One More Time”; giving the win and a 154lb assortment of Smartmouth Brewing Company beer to Meeks for the win.

Is the Future of Drifting Coming from Northern California?

DomMartinez.13YearoldDrifter

Northern California has a new and young secret weapon younger than most of you reading this post. He is 13 year old Dominic Martinez  who is entering a Pro Am competition this weekend and already seen success in the Drift Cave series. He has impressed drivers in the local drift scene so much that pro Matt Field brought him to my attention for this post. The only two real youth drivers I can remember are James Deane and Jack Shanahan who have both impressed me as they grew older. Dominic Martinez seems like one to watch and if he puts down an impressive finish at Golden Gate Drift this weekend we will provide a follow up post. Make sure to follow him on Instagram below and thanks to Wall Hunter for the photo.

2015 USDRIFT Pro AM Series Round 4 at VIR [RESULTS]

USDriftRound4

The 4th and final round of the 2015 USDrift PRO/AM Series took place at VIRginia International Raceway leaving only three drivers with a chance to walk away with the championship. Austin Meeks from Spartanburg, SC did everything possible in his Sikky Manufacturing swapped LSX powered 1996 Nissan 240SX on Achilles Radials to try and take the championship by qualifying first and winning the event, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the lead from Concord, NC native Jonathan Nerren going into the event. Nerren would end up qualifying second and finishing second at Round 4 in his 1995 Magnuson Superchargers Nissan 240SX on Zenna Tires, giving him the 2015 Championship by just a mere 21 points over Meeks. Yonkers, NY resident, by way of Ireland, Fred Keogh in his LS3 powered Nissan 350Z on Achilles Radials would enter the final round third in points, qualify third, finish the event in third, and end the season third overall in points. Nerren, Meeks, and Keogh also earned their 2016 Formula DRIFT PRO2 licenses after the event.

Three Palms Raceway Owes Rent, Payouts, Taxes, and More

ThreePalmsDriftSeries

The group who purchased a Pro Am license from Formula Drift in Florida is known as Three Palms Drift Pro Am that also rents and runs Three Palms Speedway seem to be underwater in debts. The track from what I understand was called Punta Gorda Speedway and was shut down by the property owners (Charlotte County Airport Authority) when the old owners weren’t paying bills, having issues, etc… Three Palms came in for a 36 month / $6,500 a month rental agreement for the property according to NBC Channel 2 and brought the track back to life.

KelseyRowlings.ThreePalms

The track then hosted a winter Pro Am series bringing down guest judges such as Geoff Stoneback and pro judge Brian Eggert to help legitimize the Pro Am and issue some Pro 2 licenses for 2015. Well, when the smoke cleared from the Pro Am series they owed people money (some who wished to go on the record and some who asked to be kept out of it.) The $15,000 in series prize money announced in December here from what I understand has not been paid out to the tune of one cent at this point. If you add on the tax troubles and not paying their landlord I don’t see anyone getting paid anytime soon from this Pro Am.

KevinLawernce

Some of the short lived series content can be found here in our archives. These content posts from Wrecked might sadly be the only records left of this Florida Pro Am series soon. However, some good did come out of the series as it helped a couple Florida drifters run Pro 2 this season including Kesley Rowlings who I think has a possible bright future in Formula Drift.

2015 Midwest Drift Union Round 2 on Streets of Detroit [RESULTS]

MidwestDriftUnion.Detroit

One of the most unique Pro Am events of the season is when Midwest Drift Union invades the streets of Detroit, Michigan each year. Some unique builds like this C6 Corvette showed up to drive making the day even more unique/special in my opinion. Where was that car for Street Driven STL? Kyle Cross took this awesome snap of Shane Whalley chasing down this C6 Corvette in downtown Detroit, Michigan. Here is how the results finished –

1. Riley Sexsmith
2. Shane Whalley
3. Nick Thomas
4. Sam Henry
