Chelsea DeNofa won the XDC championship two years in a row (2010-2011) and is now making his way over to Formula Drift in 2012. He just released a 2011 reel video which you can check out by following the link below. He really puts down some great follow runs through these 2011 XDC video and we are hoping he can bring that aggressiveness into Formula Drift for this season. Hopefully his 2012 chassis has more power or on some tracks he will have a hard time keeping up with the rocket ships competition like ASD.

The game has been out for a few weeks now but our review copy got here late, SEMA came, and even MW3 is now out but at the end of the day I have been so busy playing this game that writing about it hadn’t even crossed my mind. Now I am under the weather and covenantally have plenty of time to play Forza 4 and right up a review! While many websites will talk about “career” mode and all this other stuff but we are going to take a focus on drifting.

The greatest thing about drifting in the game from a customization/individualism  stand point is you have many options on what you would like to drift. You can slide with stock cars, Pro Am cars, made up wraps, and almost every D1GP and Formula Drift car ever created. You can see one of our writers “CobraTuner” drifting a Ross Petty Rasta S15 in the photo above which can be found in the storefront.

Certain AWD cars like the Nissan Skyline are even able to be converted into RWD from the standard AWD drivetrain. Many cars are allowed to do engine swaps within the OEM of the car you are driving. So sadly no LS Chevrolet engine swaps into a 240sx in this game just yet. The storefront is already loaded with amazing real world replicas. A tip to finding them quickly is enter in manual keywords in design search for “D1GP” or “formula d.”

From a drivability stand point things are a little smoother in this game from Forza 3. The e-brake system has an all around better feeling and the car can produce much more angle before spinning out. Sadly your reverse entry will still count as a spin according to the Drifting HUD but it will look awesome on Xbox Live in front of your friends while in tandem. The extra steering control and ability to bring the car back past the point of no return with a good suspension setup is really a great addition to the game.

One quick note is the Drifting HUD can still be turned on at anytime during gameplay but it has been moved location wise. In Forza 3 a tad of the D-Pad would throw you into drifting mode instantly. Now (and annoyingly) you have to press pause, and select the HUD button. Once you get the HUD menu to pull up please scroll all the way down until you see DRIFT HUD. You can turn this on which will eliminate lap times and pull up drift scores. This can be turned on/off at anytime.

One last huge addition to drifting in Forza 4 is the new section in community called “Rivals.” Go all the way over to the left in this menu option and you will find the Drift Zone section. You can do drift battle on 10 tracks with Xbox Live friends and the community for bounty points. The options range from real tracks like Road Atlanta to the fake mountain pass of Japan Fujimi Kaido.

Tanner Foust’s Rockstar Scion tC makes its way into the video game world by becoming the newest DLC for Dirt3. The amount of detail on this car is amazing. Everything on the real car has made it into the game. Yes, It comes with the NASCAR V8 under the hood. 650hp will throw this car sideways easily in the Gymkhana mode. In the car info is shows the drivetrain being RWD… but once you start the race there is a slight bit of power going to the front wheels too.  Sadly its the only mode you are able to use the car on. Shame we cant attempt Rally with it.

Regardless of only being able to use the Scion tC in Gymkhana and it not being truly RWD its an amazing car to drive, and definitely put a smile on my face when I heard the engine rev up to 9k. You can purchase Tanner Foust’s car in the Xbox Live Market Place  for 160 points, and also in the PSN store for $1.99.

This week at E3 the guys at Need for Speed announced the new game The Run which will be released on November 15th. While we will be reviewing SHIFT 2 this weekend which is loaded with Mad Mike, Matt Powers, and Vaughn Gittin Jr. we have some news for the fresh new game The Run. We had a leak at E3 this week telling us that the Mustang RTR-X built by Vaughn Gittin Jr. will be in the game even though it hasn’t been announced officially by EA Games. It is possible some other drifting related rides will be in the game as well.

The original GRID game released by Codemasters (who makes the DiRT series as well) featured a great arcade drifting mode and featured some D1 Grand Prix cars. The game featured Team Orange cars, Toshiki Yoshioka’s AE86, and even Rhys Millen’s Pontiac GTO. The fun arcade style will keep you drifting for hours. The original game even included drift races where you ripped up a track while drifting with seven other cars.

GRID 2 is set for a 2012 release date and we have some leaked information about some Formula Drift cars that will be included in the game. As far as we know the the Mobil 1 x Redbull Energy Drink Chevrolet Camaro driven by Ryan Tuerck will be included in the game along with the NOS Energy Drink Nissan 370 driven by Chris Forsberg. Hopefully more Formula Drift cars will be added to the game making this a must purchase package of 2012.

The game developers added an awesome Gymkhana Mode that allows some maximum hoonage in the car of your choice. The Ford Fiesta’s make a perfect car to terrorize Monaco and other select locations in the game. This new mode allows for you to perform tricks and jumps while scoring points. You can even participate in RallyCross (door to door racing) which you can battle at the LA Coliseum. Playing on the Wrecked Magazine simulator you are compelled to run with the in-car view which is quite improved from DiRT 2.

The traditional racing modes are still available in the game with long haul rally racing across Norway, Kenya, and other breathtaking foreign lands. As you make your way through the career mode you will unlock the RMR Hyundai Genesis PM580. This car is a rocket ship in the game that took us quite some time to get settled in with. It’s speed is so great compared to the starter set of cars that you get inside. Rhys Millen just adds to the Formula Drift love inside DiRT 3 when you make your purchase.

The game adds snow driving and allows racing at night to compliment the new features and graphics. DiRT 2 only had 41 routes and DiRT 3 now boasts over 100+ routes in the new game available for Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows PC. The car also features five decades of rally cars from classic models from Lancia, Mini Cooper and Audi.

Lastly before I hope back in the simulator to play the guys at Codemasters added an extensive multiplayer options and gaming where you can race against up to seven friends. Split-screen multiplayer gaming is also available for all game modes now. Lastly they added a “Party Mode” which will help you pass around your controller when people are over to keep playing for hours with some friends.

Matt Powers Vs. Vaughn Gittin Jr. Battle It Out on Autolog Drift Challenge

The Need for Speed SHIFT 2 Unleashed launch is just around the corner in two weeks. The guys at EA Games released this hilarious video promoting the Autolog Drift Challenge. It looks like a way to challenge friends through Xbox Live/Playstation Network to battle over drifting performance points. The important part is the closing where Matt Powers said he could beat Vaughn Gittin Jr. at anything other than eating crabs and drifting. We want to see that happen!

The new game in the Need for Speed franchise comes out at the end of March and is called SHIFT 2 Unleashed. The game hits the stores on March 29th and is a huge improvement from SHIFT. In your garage you will have Vaughn’s 2011 Ford Mustang that won the championship so you can take it out at Irwindale Speedway or Ebisu Circuit at anytime for real like drifting experiences. Here are some words from Vaughn about his role in SHIFT 2, “I am each players’ friend and coach in the game,” Vaughn explains. “I am the guy that gives the player confidence before and during the races, I applaud players when they are killing it, and I yell at them when they are making mistakes.”

Here is a video featuring Vaughn Gittin Jr. talking you through the Need for Speed SHIFT 2 career mode for the new game that is scheduled for an end of March release. The video even shows off his 2010 Formula Drift championship Ford Mustang so we can assume it will be available in the game.
