Darren McNamara Has New Look for 2010

March 15th, 2010

The guys at Team Falken are out at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina getting some practice time in before the new season gets underway. A quick glance at the snapshot you might not notice anything out of place but over too the far right is Darren McNamara’s car in what appears to be a non Sears Auto Center wrap. Just from this snapshot I can tell you that it’s the best looking we have seen this Saturn Sky to date. Good luck with the testing Team Falken!

Tyler McQuarrie Tire Test: Falken Azenis RT615 VS. “NEW” RT 615K

March 4th, 2010

Tyler McQuarrie

I just got back from the Streets of Willow where we conducted a comparison test between the Falken Tire RT 615 and the new and improved RT 615K. We used two cars to help us conduct this test, 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 and the 2010 Nissan 370Z. Both cars are awesome but so different at the same time, which is why they were perfect for our test.

I ran through a set of the RT 615 on the Ford Mustang 5.0 and the Nissan 370Z. I went all out in each car to lay down a bench mark time to compare against the new RT 615K. Both cars were quick but in different areas of the track. We then slapped on the new RT 615K, which look exactly the same as the RT 615 but have an improved compound that retains the 200 UTQG that it had before.

From the minute I left the pits, I could feel a huge increase in the level of grip. As I started to pick up the pace I noticed that it still had those great features of the RT 615, which is very predictable and user friendly. After I laid down my 3 timed laps in each car I was blown away at the change in grip! It’s pretty cool to see how one variable has such a big effect on the feel and performance of your car.

For those of you that own or have owned a set of RT 615, you will be so impressed with the level of grip that the RT 615K has over the RT 615. If you have never driven on the RT 615, I promise that you will be blown away with the performance of the RT 615K! Stay tuned to www.falkentire.com for a full video and results from our test
A tire test is not complete without some drifting! Can’t wait to use these in the 2010 Formula D Championship!

Formula Drift TV – 2009 Season In Review [VIDEO]

February 10th, 2010

I got a link today from the guys at Formula Drift which features a 30 minute+ recap of the 2009 season minus Irwindale Speedway. Some great behind the scenes content, announcing mix ups, and umbrella girls set the tone for this great thirty minute season review. Instead of hosting this thirty minute flick on Wrecked Magazine we figured we could shoot you over to the Vimeo page of the Formula Drift. Grab some popcorn and a cold beer because this one won’t be over anytime soon.

Falken Tire Team with Go Pro HD at Irwindale Speedway

Falken Tire has documented their season very well in video. 2009 has marked their strongest season for Team Falken while they managed to sweep the podium at Wall Speedway back at Round 3. This video by Patrick Barrett captures some quality content with GoPro HD cameras and gives you some great perspective of the drivers taking on Irwindale Speedway.

The New Falken Tire Azenis RT615-K

November 19th, 2009

Here is a PR we scored from John Choi about the new Falken Azenis RT615-K tire and I cannot wait to see it in drifting action already.

FONTANA, CA (November 6, 2009) – Falken Tire is proud to announce the launch of the new Azenis RT615-K. While the original RT615 proved to be a dominant force in the DOT approved and truly street functional competition tire category, we’ve decided to make it even better.

The K in the new RT615-K can have many meanings but none describe the second generation 615 better than KAIZEN.

By definition, this Japanese word means “continuous improvement” which precisely describes the newest edition to the Azenis lineup. Visually, nearly identical to its predecessor, the subtle K on the sidewall is the only tell tale sign of what lies within its completely revised tread compound.

Although taking uncompromised grip to the next level, the new RT retains a 200A/A UTQG rating, still making it eligible by nearly all “Street Tire Class” competition sanctioning bodies.

Other familiar features adopted by the RT615-K include an 8/32nds molded tread design, light weight casing construction and high tension carcass resulting in superior grip, improved handling response and high speed stability.

With 21 sizes ideal for a wide range of today’s most popular applications, the RT615-K is refined on the track and bred for the streets.

Calvin Wan Dropped for 2010 [RUMORMILL]

November 13th, 2009

The rumor mill has been ablaze since coming off SEMA that Calvin Wan is no longer a Team Falken driver for 2010. From what we have heard is that Falken is going to an even slimmer team for next season just running the four official Team Falken cars. Calvin Wan did account for Team Falken’s first victory back in 2005 at Sonoma but recently he has struggled to keep his S15 in one piece at events such as Long Beach where he smashed Turn 10 battling Ryan Tuerck.

This leaves them with a strong chance of picking up a championship in my eyes for next season with Darren McNamara, Tyler McQuarrie, Vaughn Gittin Jr., and Daijiro Yoshihara all in the mix.
