2015 Formula Drift Round 4 New Jersey Qualifying [RESULTS]

So 37 drivers showed up for New Jersey which is one of the better driver counts for a Wall Speedway event that we can remember. I guess narrowing down the field just swept away the non-serious players. Two drivers (James Evans and Charles Ng) failed to get a score so only three drivers with a score didn’t qualify. 78 was the cutoff score which is pretty high compared to the average. Here is how they guys finished and who the tandem battles will be in the morning –

2015 Formula D Round 1 Long Beach – OEM Manufacturers Championship [STANDINGS]

With two of three cars on the podium, Scion has taken the early lead in the OEM Manufacturer’s championship. With many cars in the top 16 not being eligible for the OEM Championship due to having a mis-matched engine, Scion has a fairly substantial lead on all other manufacturers. Ford is in second place with a top-8 appearance from Gittin Jr. and a top sixteen finish from Pawlak, and Chevy sits in third place with a top-8 appearance from McQuarrie and a top-32 effort from Grunewald. While Lexus currently sits in fifth place overall thanks to points from Robbie Nishida, this may be the only points they score all season as Nishida is expected to debut his Infiniti G37 at the next round in Atlanta. Last year, Charles Ng’s car wasn’t eligible for manufacturer points due to using a Chevy engine, but the shift to the VR38 engine out of the Nissan GT-R allows him to earn points for Infiniti in 2015.

Here’s how the OEM championship shapes up after the first round of the 2015 Formula D Championship:

1. Scion  – 173 points
2. Ford – 88 points
3. Chevy – 69 points
4. Nissan – 57 points
5. Lexus – 51 points
T6. BMW – 34 points
T6. Infiniti – 34 points
T8. Dodge– 18 Points
T8. Mazda – 18 Points

2015 Formula Drift Livery Overload [GUIDE]

Below is a breakdown of all the 2015 Formula Drift liveries released to date and I will update as we go along. To make life easy, I ranked them by championship finishing order of 2014.

1. Chris Forsberg – Nissan 370z
The championship returns with a Nissan 370z and some added sponsors for the new year. NOS Energy Drink returns as his title and the car gets a refresh to the new Nismo style front end.

2. Fredric Aasbo – Scion tC
Another car making its return in 2015. Fredric happens to be my personal prediction for 2015 Formula Drift champion if that means anything to you. He added a title sponsorship with Rockstar Energy Drink and I really hope he runs those yellow wheels he used in his car unveiling. Regardless, the car has never looked better and I think he is poised for a great season.

3. Vaughn Gittin Jr. – Ford Mustang
Vaughn Gittin Jr. is using his old Ford Mustang with the new livery as they continue to research and develop his 2015 RTR for competition. My guess is, he will stick with the 2014 Mustang until he winds up mathematically out of the championship. That is when he would bring the 2015 RTR out for this year. If he is in the running for the championship, I expect to see this car in 2016. Good news is, you can always see his new 2015 Mustang RTR at non Formula Drift events such as Street Driven May 2nd at VIR.

4. Odi Bakchis – Hyundai Genesis / Nissan 240sx
Odi Bakchis is running a complex Formula Drift World Championship setup that involves running two cars in the USA. We have a complete Odi Bakchis schedule for his die-hard fans that want to know what he is driving and where. For this weekend, he will be in this big V8 powered Hyundai Genesis with a Vortech Supercharger kit hoping to start off with a great 2015 season.

5. Forrest Wang – LHD S15 Nissan Silvia
This car became the most hyped up and leaked debacle of 2015 all over the Internet last week due to our Instagram page but we will leave that be. Car looks pretty similar to last season and still carries a 2JZ engine setup and WiseFab for big angle.

2014 Golden Gate Drift Pro Am Round 2 [RESULTS]

Golden Gate Drift Round 2 came to an end this weekend at Stockton 99 Raceway. The all Formula Drift judging staff included Matt Field, Pat Mordaunt, and Tyler McQuarrie for the race weekend. Some good battles throughout the weekend and several cars were destroyed from the banked part of the course. Here is how they finished up:

1st: Tyler Knudsen
2nd: Ryan Rasberry
3rd: Rob Pascua

Patrick Mordaunt in old Falken 350z for 2015 Formula Drift

Patrick Mordaunt is stepping into the ring for 2015 with the old Falken Nissan 350z that has taken home the win at Irwindale Speedway in the past. Pat is now part of a two car team that includes Tyler McQuarrie, who will run and manage the program, and continue to drive his GoPro Chevrolet Camaro for the 2015 season. As you can also see, Patrick has moved to Falken Tire for the 2015 season. I think that makes our rumor of Tyler McQuarrie moving to Falken Tire a safe bet  since they are 2015 teammates. After some social media digging it seems the 350z will get a similar LS7 engine package to the Camaro as well. Patrick will bring sponsors such as Konig Wheels, Sparco, Brian Crower, and a title sponsor DriftPaddock.com to the 350z.

This is  likely the most reliable and solid drift car Pat Mordaunt will step into over his long drift career. The question now will be can he rise up to the challenge and perform well? He sure needs it after last season that ended with a bunch of broken Hyundai parts.

Tyler McQuarrie Returns to Falken Tire for 2015

The big announcement of the week appears to be the return of Tyler McQuarrie to the Falken Tire tea/blue. He took to Instagram this morning to let everyone know he has made a great return to the brand for the 2015 season. No official word on the future of the current Falken Tire drivers such as Justin Pawlak and Dai Yoshihara’s tire plans for the future. Tyler McQuarrie never saw great success on the Hankook Tire through his career on it with the Chevrolet Camaro in the past so it will be interesting to see what his return to the Falken 615k will do for him in 2015. What do you think of the move?

Michael Essa Is Leaving his BMW in The Past [RUMORMILL]

One of the biggest things happening in Formula Drift over the last few seasons is the shifting and growth of various car manufacturers in the sport. The advent of the OEM manufacturing championship as helped people keep an eye on who is driving what in the sport. Well, a big rumormill we keep hearing again and again which now we can almost confirm 100% is that Michael Essa is throwing away the keys to his E46 BMW that won him a championship and saying hello to a Chevrolet Camaro! This is the third Camaro we expect to see on grid for 2015 along side Tyler McQuarrie and Conrad Grunewald. What do you think about Michael Essa’s potential jump into a Camaro for 2015?
