Tanner Foust

Formula Drift “Global Challenge” in Qatar within 10 Days

You have probably never heard of Qatar unless you are a soccer fan. They are the little country that just out from Saudi Arabia who stole the 2022 World Cup from the United States of America. Their national soccer team has never qualified for a World Cup since they started trying in the 1970′s but that is another conversation for another day. Seven drivers from the Abu Dhabi event will be driving at the Qatar Racing Club in just 10 days. Here is a list of drivers competing: Chris Forsberg, Tanner Foust, Michael Essa, Tony Brakohiapa, Fredric Aasbo, Mike Whiddett and Daijiro Yoshihara. The event will be streamed live via the DriftStream and will be featured on Formula DRIFT TV on VERSUS as a half-hour special and will be kicking off March 18th.

Wrecked Magazine Issue 19 Is Here

We posted this to our Facebook Friends on Friday as an early exclusive so go add us if you want the next one early. The cover features the new Gardella Racing driver Eric O’Sullivan with a ten question interview about his new team, teammate, and the new season. We also paid homage to the only two time champion Tanner Foust with a great write up called “The End of An Era” written by Joey Redmond. Jon Chase from DSTROYR wrote a guest editorial about how his brand has been impacted by the sport of drifting. In Focus section turns the lens to the Mazda brand and the many cars it has brought into the sport. We kick off Project V8 240sx in the issue and lastly throw out 2011 Season Predictions and Fantasy Drift tips.

Chris Forsberg on Formula Drift Abu Dhabi [INTERVIEW]

Wrecked Magazine: How was the United Arab Emirates in general?

Chris Forsberg: Our hotel was located right next to the track which is actually about 30 miles from Abu Dhabi or any city for that matter.  With that said, we really didn’t have too many opportunities to experience the UAE.  We did get to do one of the things I had hoped for which is rent off road vehicles and go play in the sand.  So much fun but a little scary when you look around and realize just how easy it could be to get lost. It was definitely way more westernized than I had expected and most of the people spoke English which made things easier for us.  Overall, I had a great time.

Wrecked Magazine: What were your thoughts on the Yas Marina Circuit, would you like to compete on tracks like that in the US series?

Chris Forsberg:Yas Marina was easily the best track I’ve ever been to, let alone driven on.  In fact, nothing even comes close.  The accommodations were 1st class but more importantly to me, the track itself was much more fun than any of the tracks we drift on here in the US.

Wrecked Magazine: How was Ferrari World and the world’s fastest roller coaster?

Chris Forsberg: Well, I’ve never even been to a six flags so to be honest, I was a little intimidated at first.  The acceleration compares to a 6 second drag car which, as you can imagine, feels pretty nuts.  I actually got to ride it 3 times & on the 3 ride, I actually got to ride in the front where you are required to wear safety goggles.  I could literally feel my cheeks slapping against my teeth.  It was ridiculous, yet awesome.

Wrecked Magazine:What was your favorite tandem battle of the weekend?

Chris Forsberg: Tanner Foust!  I for one am sad to see him leave Formula Drift so getting to compete against him one last time was very exciting and to take the win against him was even better.

Fredric Aasbo takes First Place at Yas Marina [RESULTS]

After a series of heated battles, close calls, and a lost headlight, 2010 Rookie of the Year Fredric Aasbo took home First Place at the first ever Formula Drift “Urban Skillz” Abu Dhabi Demo in the Team Need for Speed Supra. Behind him was Chris Forsberg in the NOS Energy 350Z bringing home Second, and Tanner Foust in the Rockstar Energy Scion TC in Third.

Congratulations to the Fredric on the Victory! We’re excited to see what he brings to the table come Long Beach in the new Papadakis Racing 2011 Scion TC as it looks like he’s on target to fill the shoes Tanner Foust is leaving behind. What do you guys think?

Tanner Foust Retires from Formula Drift before 2011 Season [CONFIRMED]

The two time Formula Drift champion won’t be in Formula Drift anymore so he can go suck up to Ford and Rockstar Energy Drink in Rallycross. While that information was officially lacking from the PR I cannot really see many other reasons to be walking away before this 2011 season. Although Rockstar Energy Drink use to be the title sponsor of Formula Drift it seems like their interest in the sport has progressively faded over recent years.

That combined with the fact that Tanner isn’t the Ford golden boy of the Ford Motor Company in drifting has potentially lead him to try and make that happen elsewhere. Serving double duty with an OEM isn’t going to get him that position with Ford so Rallycross seems to be his logical answer. He will be driving in Abu Dhabi at the end of this month in the Rockstar Energy Drink tC still at this time. I guess the good news is AT LEAST he didn’t sell out and leave Formula Drift for time attack.

Papadakis Racing Scion tC with Seibon Body Kit

Here is the 2011 Scion tC from Papadakis Racing with it’s new Seibon Carbon body kit starting to get installed. Our interview on Friday with Steph went great and we will have it up on the website soon. The new car is coming together as Long Beach sneaks up. Some major updates to this team will be coming out this week we have been told.

Ask A Question to Stephan Papadakis!

We are scheduled to go meet up with Scion/Rockstar Team Owner and builder Stephan Papadakis tomorrow at Seibon Carbon! Please place in the comments section below any questions you would like us to ask him. Currently Tanner Foust is relaxing in Hawaii but Stephan is hard at work completing the new 2011 Scion tC for Tanner Foust to drive starting at Streets of Long Beach.

Papadakis Racing Also Has a Scion FT-86 [RUMORMILL]

Word from some reliable sources has it that Papadakis Racing (team owner of Tanner Foust’s Scion tC) has a new Scion FT-86  in it’s possession. We have also been told it might already be caged! We revealed 10 days ago a caged Scion tC that we are certain will be his 2011 Formula Drift car. Judging by the rumored release dates of this Scion FT-86 it appears that Tanner and Steph could be building a 2012 car already to start testing and make this thing a contender in 2012.

Tanner Foust’s Ford Fiesta for 2011 [SPYSHOT]

Tanner Foust has a whole new look to this Ford Fiesta for the 2011 season in Rallycross. The car will be unveiled this week in England but the car itself looks quite the same. The new wrap has a Rockstar repeat pattern over the rear quarter panels and a yellow front. I like it much better than the wrap from last year.
