Matt Field reveals “Gears of War” livery for Formula Drift Irwindale [SPY SHOT]

Matt Field’s name has become almost synonymous with the bright highlighter neon yellow color that he has carried either as a primary or secondary color on every livery he has used in his Formula Drift career. However, Field’s new partnership with the “Gears of War” video game franchise will have his fans seeing red this weekend. We haven’t seen a major video game partnership like this in Formula Drift since the Need for Speed partnership transitioned into Speedhunters support, so it’s good to see a major non-endemic partnering with one of the drivers. Winning in Texas probably didn’t hurt Field’s cause either.

Daigo Saito builds a Ferrari 599 GTB drift car [SPY SHOT]

As if we needed any other proof that Daigo Saito can make any car driftable, Saito and his Fat Five Racing shop have recently built this Ferrari 599 GTB car into a driftable chassis. In the background of this shot, you can also see a Ferrari 458 chassis that is likely also a drift car. Ryan Lanteigne actually showed a preview of this car on Instagram a few weeks back, but this is the first peak of the car that was apparently built for a Chinese customer. Of course, this is far from the first exotic car Saito has build, as evidenced by the Battle Drift video Saito filmed last year with Vaughn Gittin Jr.  Hopefully we can find video of this build very soon!

“Mad” Mike Whiddett’s Formula Drift-ready RADBUL breaks cover

Mike Whiddett - RADBUL Drift Car

Despite his car not making it to the US in time for the first round in Long Beach, “Mad” Mike Whiddett is pumped on his 2015 season. He used a local TV newscast to reveal the 4-rotor 26B powered RADBUL Miata MX5 chassis that he will debut on track in Atlanta in just 2 weeks. The car uses a blue base color, which is different from the traditional black-and-white bases he’s used in the past. His main sponsors, besides the obvious Red Bull partnership, include Mazda, Mobil 1, and Nitto Tire. Whiddett designed the livery himself, one of the only Red Bull athletes given that freedom. We missed him in Long Beach (he made our ’10 things’ list), but can begin the countdown at 13 days until the qualifying day of Formula Drift Atlanta.

Pat Mordaunt and Tyler McQuarrie Show Off 2015 Formula Drift Team

Patrick Mordaunt and Tyler McQuarrie have sealed up a 2015 program together where they are set to function as a team for the new season. The guys are sharing transport, crew, along with R&D so they can further both programs rapidly. Pat Mordaunt is carrying quite a few more sponsors than Tyler including Konig Wheels and AEM for the 2015 Formula Drift season. Both drivers have run the Falken 615K before but are returning to it in the 2015 season as well. You can head over to our Facebook page and see a little Pat Mordaunt hype/release video right now. Which teammate do you think will finish higher in the championship this season?

Andy Blackmore took the reigns on the creative for this project – “As with any design, I produced a variety of proposals to ensure we have covered all bases and resolved any issues beforehand and this is where the Black central section of the livery came from,“ Andy said about the change, “It was decided from the outset to have a livery based on Tyler’s trademark look and the end result works individually as a livery with Falken coloration and also as a collective next to Tyler’s Camaro.“ Blackmore also designed the new Sparco Infinity race suit for Pat. Instead of traditional sewing logos and designs into the fire-retardant fabric, they are printed directly on to the Nomex suit and not only create a safer option but allow for much more freedom in how the suits turn out. “It was great working with Pat, who was pro-active in the design direction, review, and branding placement.”

“Since car style is so important in FD, this season I opted to work with Andy Blackmore Design,” says Pat Mordaunt on his new render for 2015. “We wanted to create a livery that pays homage to the car’s roots while showing that we are a part of Tyler McQuarrie Racing.” Was working with the incredible talent worth it? “Working with Andy Blackmore has been phenomenal. His creativity and attention to detail is unrivaled when it comes to car design.”

Ryan Tuerck Goes Old School Toyota Livery for 2015 Formula Drift

Ryan Tuerck unveiled his new Scion FR-S sitting on some white Fifteen 52 wheels and a throwback TRD livery. The one thing that sticks out to me on this car is how far out his front wheels are compared to the rear clearing showing some off-season changes they have made with the setup of this car. I do know a new shop tackled the build this go around which could show some serious changes and overhaul in his program and build of the FRS. I will try and grab Tuerck today and go over some of the changes if he is at Media Day. Tuerck remains on Maxxis Tires and has added Valvoline to his program for the new season. If I remember correctly as well, VP Racing seems to be a new partner for 2015. What do you think of Ryan Tuerck’s new setup?

Matt Coffman Returns in 2015 with Similar Look

Matt Coffman brought his same kind of style to Formula Drift into the 2015 season with a cream and flat black style design. He still packs a humungous Roush crate engine under the hood and appears to of added a few new partners. He seems to of added a partnership with KW Suspension and Braille Battery moving into 2015. He is now on Falken Tire for the new season after spending last year on Maxxis Tire. Also, last year Matt would have moments of brilliance in this car along with long spans of what appeared to be clueless driving. It will be interesting to see how he grew during the off-season along with the rest of his 2014 Rookie class.

Matt Field Leak – New Wheels, Aero and Yokohama Tire for 2015

Someone sent us a quick shot they snapped of Matt Field’s S14 from the Drift Cave last night. While the car looks like it still needs a livery application this week it does have some hints of new things to come. The car features Rotiform BLQ-T wheels which I was told are 19’s in the back! The best I can tell from this picture the tires are Yokohama Advan AD08-R for the new season. Matt Field joins a pretty long list of people who left Nitto for the new 2015 season.

Our source told us in the email the two tire sizes he saw were 255/35/18 and 19×10.5 295/30/19 which sound like a pretty wild and fun setup if Matt Field goes through with that. The car does seem to be his token highlighter yellow for the new year. Cannot wait to see a livery on this car next week!

Dai Yoshihara Unveils his Formula Drift 2015 Subaru BRZ in Blue/White

Dai Yoshihara shows off his Turn 14 x Falken Tire Subaru BRZ, this time in a white/blue version of the car from last year. I really like the accent of red they added to the car with the wing and mirrors for 2015. The big question everyone wants to know is…. has Dai worked the bugs out of this car so can be competitive once again. His 2014 season was less than impressive and at some points he risked not finishing in the Top 32 of overall points. Dai remains on Falken Tire and KW Suspension showing that he trusted his old brands to get him through a new season. Dai has been testing a ton at WSIR which can only go to help him perform better this season I imagine. Can he be a Top 5 driver again this year, curious to know readers thoughts?

Alec Hohnadell Shows Off Get Nuts Lab x Achilles 240sx [SPYSHOTS]

Alec Hohnadell has released his 2015 livery showing off some new partners for 2015. He linked up with Forrest Wang’s operation Get Nuts Laboratory in Las Vegas to get his program off the ground and running in 2015. He has kept his LS Chevrolet engine for the new season and slapped a Magnuson TVS2300 jackshaft supercharger on it for a nice bump in horsepower for the year. I also like how his core color is green to match with the overall Get Nuts branding we have seen in years past. Alec seems to be carrying Holley Performance as a partner for the new year as well helping him with some great LS engine support. Alec mentioned to me he drove Forrest’s competition car at Vegas Drift over the past weekend and really did love the way a 2JZ engine felt in drifting. Perhaps we will see him shift over to the inline 6 setup in a future car build? What do you think of his new 2015 Formula Drift setup?

Tommy Van Cleef Goes Throwback TRD Livery for Formula Drift Pro 2

Tommy Van Cleef

Tommy Van Cleef is a really interesting and exciting driver in the world of drifting. My favorite part about him you might ask? The fact that he drives a MK3 Toyota Supra and earned a Pro 2 license with it impresses me in itself. Trust me, if the MK3 Supra was such a piece of cake to make into a drift car then plenty of other people would be doing it.

For 2015 Pro 2 Tommy has turned up the power on his 2JZ engine which we were told was making 700whp in Pro Am. He also made a move on the tire side and signed with Achilles Radial for the new upcoming Pro 2 drift season. He carries some other partners such as Turbo by Garrett, Brian Crower, Clutchmasters and BC Racing. I really dig his Ivan Stewart TRD throwback livery he has going on with his Supra as well. You can see this car make its debut on the east coast at Formula Drift Orlando Speed World in June.
