Yesterday Hankook gathered it’s new Formula Drift drivers for a quick press conference at the SEMA show. The conference featured Chris Forsberg, Ken Gushi, and Rhys Millen. Rhys Millen spoke about how he just returned from Brazil where he made a video for Redbull drifting around on one of the curviest roads in the world. It looks like he is out to one up Tanner Foust’s Drifting on Mulholland Highway video released earlier in 2010. Everyone already seems to be talking about the Hankook Vs. Falken Tire war of 2011 for another championship which should make things quite interesting.

The Hankook press conference is kicking off in about 30 minutes and we can now tell you about the top team driver moving over to Hankook Tires with Rhys Millen and Ken Gushi. The driver is Chris Forsberg who will be ending a multi year partnership with Maxxis Tires and moving to Hankook Tires in 2011 for Formula Drift. From what we do know this completes the current SEMA announcements for Hankook Tire and drifting at the SEMA show.
Formula Drift has it’s yearly press conference in just under four hours from now. The rumor of the SEMA show is some serious schedule changes for the 2011 season. Our sources have told us that Sonoma will be missing from the 2011 schedule. In a few hours we will have some confirmation on this rumor but we have heard this from a few solid sources. The two locations that I would make a guess for new locations would be Texas and Florida. They are target locations for our demographic and have tracks that can facilitate Formula Drift. We also have heard about some additional big international announcements but the Abu Dhabi event is something we reported on already.

Today at the Ford Motor Company Booth (#22200) at the 2010 SEMA show a rather large group of people gathered around to see the unveiling of the Mustang RTR-X. This is a project led by Vaughn Gittin Jr. and will be heading on a huge tour to follow this weekend at SEMA. Vaughn did announce the car will be available to drive in one of the up and coming Need for Speed video games. Here are some snapshots we captured of the first look at the RTR-X. The car cover was removed by DJ Miki Taka and Vanessa James from Need for Speed.
A rumor that has been floating around the 2010 SEMA show is that Ken Gushi will also be on Hankook Tires for the new season. They have a press conference tomorrow that will confirm this from what I understand but it looks like Gushi and the RSR/Scion Racing program are ready to hop on board to grow Hankook’s presence in the series. We have also heard the rumor that a top five team will be joining Hankook Tire for 2011 Formula Drift and we will have details up on the website as soon as we know them.
It looks like our reporting yesterday was accurate on Rhys leaving Toyo. A visit to the Hankook booth features the car with a new wrap seen above.
SEMA 2010 kicks off tomorrow and we have an extensive directory of where all the Formula Drift cars will be during the week in Las Vegas, Nevada. These cars include Formula Drift competition cars and project cars built by drivers. Drifting has a strong footprint this year inside the 2010 SEMA Show and in case you cannot make it out to Las Vegas this week we will have extensive coverage all week long so keep checking back to the website.
