Irwindale Speedway Drag Strip Back Open this Thursday – More Business as Usual

According to various reports the Irwindale Speedway drag strip is reopening this Thursday April 26th proving once again that Irwindale Speedway is back on track to being business as usual. About once a week we get asked if the Round 7 at Irwindale Speedway will still be happening and the answer is quickly yes. Scion recently used the track before FD Long Beach for a test day and now drag racing is back in weekly action. Here is a message from the Dragzine article, “We want everyone to know how much Jim Mnoian and Jay Garrett, the owners of the Irwindale property have been very involved with the process of getting the drag strip back on line. These two gentleman are both team players and understand what the drag strip means to the community,” said Cohan.

Tyler McQuarrie Taking out a 1000hp D3 Cadillac in Long Beach, California [VIDEO]

The guys at D3 Cadillac are up to no good once again by handing over the keys to a 1000hp D3 Cadillac to Tyler McQuarrie and some Indy driver you probably have never heard of named J.R. Hildebrand. The guys at D3 build some very impressive Cadillac V machines which you can see on display sliding around Long Beach in this video. The guys at D3 event lent us some time on the dyno before Streets of Long Beach for Dennis Mertzanis. With that said you should go buy one so they can pay Tyler to keep doing burnout’s everywhere he goes.

Charles Ng Kicks off 2012 WTCC Season at Monza [SNAPSHOTS]

We caught up with Charles Ng at Autodromo di Monza in Italy for the kick off of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship to talk drifting, touring cars, and his new position as driver of the Team Engstler/Liqui Moly BMW in the FIA World Touring Car Championship.

As we had previously reported, Charles Ng will not be returning for the 2012 Formula Drift season with his Nitto Tire/Evasive Motorsports FC RX7 as he was picked up to compete in the full FIA WTCC season with Team Engstler. Having had little seat time to prepare with the new BMW, Charles is facing a challenging start to the 2012 season, however when we had spoke with him, he reported that he was shaving off a second with each lap out in the car and was feeling confident looking forward to the rest of the season.

When we asked Charles if he would be returning to drifting, he reinforced his love for the sport, and stated that a return would not be out of the question. Charles asked us to wish his Formula Drift family and friends the best of luck during the 2012 season on his behalf. If you’re on the west coast, you can come out to Sonoma to cheer on Charles Ng when the FIA World Touring Car Championship hits US shores in September at Infineon Raceway.

Tyler McQuarrie Wins 25 Hours of Thunderhill AGAIN

Tyler McQuarrie took home an outstanding fourth first place finish at 25 Hours of Thunderhill. The CJ Wilson Racing team ran by MLB All-Star CJ Wilson took this Mazda Miata above to victory. Right now he doesn’t have a Formula Drift contract signed with a team in 2012. He has announced he will be back with Insight Racing in 2012 racing a BMW as well. We have been told that a few teams are in talks with locking him down for the 2012 Formula Drift season so I think he will be around next year for more action!

Charles Ng Competes in the World Touring Car Championship

With the Formula Drift off season now in full effect, some drivers have taken to relaxing while others are still active behind the wheel. We reported that Tyler McQuarrie was busy shattering lap records behind the wheel of the FXMD NSX, and now we focus on Charles Ng who is competing in the World Touring Car Championship.

Charles Ng will take the wheel of the #51 Liqui Moly Team Engstler BMW 320TC pictured above at the finale of the 2011 World Touring Car Championship at the legendary Macau Guia Street Circuit. This is the same race circuit that has seen the likes of Senna, Schumacher, and most recently current F1 Champion Sebastian Vettel and is often regarded as one of the most challenging and dangerous race circuits in the world alongside Monaco.

Charles’ last race in the BMW was in Shanghai where he managed to capture a 4th place class victory and 10th place overall. An impressive feat considering the little seat time in the BMW while competing against some of the world’s top touring car drivers.

Practice begins tomorrow and Qualifying on Friday. You can cheer Charles on by catching the race live on Eurosport, or on FIAWTCC.com.  Best of Luck to Charles in Macau!

Tyler McQuarrie Sets Track Record at Buttonwillow with 1:40.980

Tyler McQuarrie took this FX Motorsports Development Acura NSX and dominated Buttonwillow. Tyler McQuarrie managed to take home first place at Super Lap Battle with the NSX and in the process set a new track record of 1:40.980. The record was broken on Performance Friction Brakes and KW Suspension which are both our website sponsors so congrats to them as well! Tyler McQuarrie proved once again he is the man when it comes to anything on wheels. We cannot wait until he locks into a team for 2012!

Sam Hubinette Drives the Flame Shooting Zombie Apocalypse Maybach in Otis Music Video

The new song released yesterday by Kanye West x Jay-Z called Otis features the most amazing modified car I have ever seen in a music video. Granted Kanye has a track record with brilliant vehicles including his Czech supercar he brought out for a music video in his last album. The man actually driving this flame shooting limo is none other than Formula D champion Sam Hubinette. If he ever returns to Formula Drift (we have been told in Las Vegas) we cannot wait to talk with him about driving this thing around in the video.

Tanner Foust Says No Drifting in 2012 but Possibly Some Indy Car

The guys at MotorWorldHype caught up with Tanner Foust at X-Games 17 while the Wrecked Magazine staff watched it on the office couch via DirecTV. The second question we focused on was the end of the interview where Tanner drops he is shooting for an Indy ride. Rumor has it Indy Racing has been trying to get tons of guest drivers in for the Vegas race which happens on October 16th. We transcribed some good/interesting parts of the interview below or you can sit through the whole thing via YouTube.

MotorWorldHype: Will you Be Drifting in 2012?
Tanner Foust: I don’t know about coming back to drifting in 2012. Maybe later down the road, I miss it and I miss the driving. I have been watching the championship and keeping close tabs on things and it looks like it is going to be a tight battle at Iriwndale.

MWH: What is Left on the Menu in 2011?
TF: Top Gear is out on Sunday nights at 10pm on History Channel. I am trying to get into an Indy race towards the end of the year and we will see if that happens. I also have 5 more events at ERC (European Rally Cross) that has been my big push this year that is 10 events.

X-Games 17 – Tanner Foust Grabs Podium [RESULTS]

The Formula Drift team running in X-Games (some now alumni) put on a pretty great showing over the weekend at X-Games 17. Stephan Verdier appeared to suffer a mild concussion during the elimination rounds and put him out for the weekend. The other two Formula Drift stars Rhys Millen and Tanner Foust both drove all the way into the final 8 round. Rhys Millen took an unlucky lap and got stuck behind a factory Subaru who spun in the most narrow part of the track trapping him for sometime.

Tanner Foust on the other hand punted Liam Doran going into turn one and stayed in hot pursuit of Brian Deegan through the 8 lap course. Tanner was unable to make the pass on his Ford Fiesta teammate but the former Formula D champion locked down another X-Games podium for his trophy collection. Thanks for Ford Racing/ESPN Images for the photographs.

In case you missed the weekend of rally here is the finals summed up in a two minute video: X-Games 17 Rallycross Highlights
