Yea it’s back in the public light on ebay. Sorry for the misleading title but I couldn’t help it. The Chevrolet Camaro driven by Ryan Hampton back in the old days of Formula Drift has been spotted on ebay motors. The 69 Camaro has 69,000 miles on it according to the listing and is sitting in Los Angeles, California. A Buy It Now price is sitting at $29,000.Thanks for the tip Ben!

As a proud SEMA Member we have to help them out when lawmakers try and do silly things. We were notified today that the state of Oregon is trying to ban the sale of aftermarket automotive parts. This is not only insane but would put a huge hurt to the local Drifting scene which is dear to our hearts. The deal especially effects Drifting because most of the bill is related to tires. The bill is primarily focused on aftermarket tires and would authorize the Environmental Quality Commission to implement enforcement regulations, likely based on a rolling resistance calculation.
At the request of Governor Theodore Kulongoski, the Oregon Speaker of the House has introduced legislation (H.B. 2186) to prohibit the sale and distribution of aftermarket motor vehicle parts if alternatives are available that “decrease greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.” Here are some notes from SEMA Action Network.
We Urge You to Contact Oregon Speaker of the House Dave Hunt and Members of the Environment and Water Committee (Contact Information Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 2186
- H.B. 2186 would regulate vehicle fuel economy, an authority reserved to the federal government.
- H.B. 2186 could ban tires that may have improved performance, handling or appearance features, based solely on a rolling resistance rating. In addition, this program could easily distract consumers from focusing on more important safety issues such as tire inflation and overloading of vehicles.
- H.B. 2186 would force consumers to purchase only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tires because the program essentially exempts OEM-selected tires and unfairly implies that they are superior to aftermarket products.
- H.B. 2186 could prohibit aftermarket parts designed to either personalize or optimize specific vehicle performance attributes including handling, towing, suspension, fuel economy, etc.
- H.B. 2186 provides broad authority to government regulators and could limit a range of aftermarket parts currently available to consumers based on the subjective determination of government regulators.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact Oregon Speaker Dave Hunt and the House Environment and Water Committee immediately to urge his opposition to H.B. 2186.

Tanner took 2nd place this last weekend at the Sno*Drift Rally in northern Michigan. The event was the first of nine that make up the Rally America Series not including they also section the X-Games Rally competition. Tanner was in a rented 2003 Hyundai Tiburon that has been used (and abused) by several drivers over the year, it’s surprising the car made it through in one piece much more that it finished 2nd!
Word is that Tanner is having a Mitsubishi Evolution X built and wasn’t ready for competition but hopefully will be ready to debut at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in late February.
Notice that he’s running on Pirelli Tires which does not coincide with his new drift tire sponsor Hankook. This is a direct competition to Hankook who does make rally tires. Could be that the rental car team (John Buffum) has Pirelli as a sponsor but we will definitely have to follow up on this at the next event. Not many drivers can pull off competing sponsors in different series. Will Tanner be will running a Mitsubishi on Pirelli in rally and a Scion on Hankook in drift? He really must be the “Golden Child”.

Well let me start off saying that this is a total rumor and no one has told me anything to verify this is true but I have a sneaky feeling my prediction will come true. Taniguchi, Orido, and Miki are the three drivers in this picture above. Ironically all of them have driven in Formula D in some way shape or form but Miki was the one who shocked us out of this group. Will he be returning for the 2009 Formula D season, we don’t think so… with APEX in a poor financial state and him not quite being in the marketing globe for the 08 season we have to think the Bergenholtz brothers would be considering a new driver for the Mazda. Who will it be? Am I way off base? This could all be true but as the off season gets smaller more people will talk and we will be on top of the breaking stories. Now seeing him driving in MSC and digging up stuff on the few Japanese sites I can make sense of anything at I just feel Miki’s Formula D career is over for now but we shall see.

Check out JTP and his National Wave Mazda Rx-7 that got featured at Mazda USA’s website. It is always nice to see Drifting with some major exposure and support from a car manufacturer. They feature a full profile on Justin and his Rx-7 including a picture gallery of his car.
