Drift Shifters Releases International Drivers List for Big New Zealand Event

The international stars stacked up for Red Bull Drift Shifters is probably the biggest in drifting history since the Red Bull World Championship in Southern California back in 2009. If you live in Auckland the event is free on December 6th. Here are some stars coming to New Zealand:

Mad Mike Whiddett
Matt Powers
Chris Forsberg (Nissan 370z)
Tyler McQuarrie (Chevrolet Camaro)
Ryan Tuerck (Scion FRS)
Daigo Saito (Lexus IS250 – FD Asia Car)
Ken Nomura (Nissan R34 Skyline)
Jake Jones (Nissan S13 240sx)

Chris Forsberg Coming to Irish Drift Championship in 240sx

IDC is coming into a wild Round 5 this weekend with Japfest. The car is built/maintained by Darren McNamara and was used at Global Warfare by Matt Powers. Now that Vaughn Gittin Jr. walked out of KOE Valencia with a win we wonder if Chris Forsberg can back that up with a win this weekend for a true American takeover of the European drift world.

Matt Powers Heading to French Drift Championship for Round 6

Matt Powers is heading over to France to join them for Round 6 of the French Drift Championship. He will actually be driving a LHD Ford Mustang owned by  Jerome Vassia. Matt Powers Makes a Return to Drifting This Month!

It has been way too long since anyone has seen Matt Powers behind the wheel of a drift car. Minus his 360 drift video that took over the Internet recently he hasn’t been easy to come by. Well the good news is in that on June 29th he will also be attending Round 3 of the Irish Drift Championship along with Daigo Saito and Robbie Nishida already billed for battle. Matt will field a car with MCNSPORT (Darren McNamara’s operation) driving a LHD 1JZ powered 240sx. Only time will tell how he performs in Ireland!

Matt Powers won’t drive in Formula D in 2014 [BREAKING NEWS]

In a very shocking turn of events, Matt Powers announced via Facebook that he will not be competing in Formula D in 2014.  Powers finished 16th overall in 2013, a drop from 10th overall in 2012 and 6th overall in 2011. Citing the increasing amount of work involved with running and managing your own team on the Formula D level, Powers will still be drifting via World Drift Series in China and other demos (including the Red Bull Drift Shifters event in New Zealand he won last year).

This year I will not be competing in Formula D. Its a strange announcement to make, but to be honest, not a sad one for me at this time. I will still be drifting locally and all over the world, using my main car in the WDS China series, and my demo car/pirate ship for demos, fun days, all star bashes, all that good fun stuff. New opportunities that I can’t turn down have been presented to me and running your own team in FD is a serious commitment both time and energy wise-my heart is simply not in that right now. Instead I am going to focus on my life and happiness and other projects. Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years and for the continued support, stoked to find out what’s next!

We wish Mr. Powers the best in his new endeavors and hope that he  makes a return to the series in 2015.
