Formula Drift World Championship contenders will grow – FD Canada Drivers List

FredricAasbo

Prior to this weekend’s Formula Drift Canada round, only nine drivers had qualified for the World Championship by driving in the Formula Drift Japan round. In order to be in contention for the World Championship title, drivers must drive in one of the three international rounds (Japan, Canada, and the yet TBD China round). However, the China round is invite-only, so drivers really only had two options. After the Texas round, here’s the current standings in the World Championship among the 9 drivers who are in contention:

Fredric Aasbo – 480 Points
Odi Bakchis – 396 Points
Masashi Yokoi – 309 Points
Matt Field – 263Points
Daigo Saito – 257 Points
Dean Kearney – 205 Points
Charles Ng – 175 Points
Robbie Nishida – 144 Points
“Mad” Mike Whiddett – 141 Points

The drivers list for this weekend’s round contains an additional four names that will be added to this list.

2015 Formula Drift Round 4 New Jersey Qualifying [RESULTS]

Gushi-Atlanta

So 37 drivers showed up for New Jersey which is one of the better driver counts for a Wall Speedway event that we can remember. I guess narrowing down the field just swept away the non-serious players. Two drivers (James Evans and Charles Ng) failed to get a score so only three drivers with a score didn’t qualify. 78 was the cutoff score which is pretty high compared to the average. Here is how they guys finished and who the tandem battles will be in the morning –

2015 Formula Drift Road Atlanta Round 2 [RESULTS]

Road Atlanta is always a fun battle ground for the top drifting drivers in the world. Robbie Nishida made a lackluster debut in his Infiniti G37 failing to make a qualifying pass and Dai Yoshihara had issues in his Subaru BRZ and didn’t make a pass either. The bottom of the group was quite close and Matt Field even had to drift his way out of 33rd place on his second pass to stay in the show. Here is how the tandem battles look for today –

Mats Baribeau Announces New Sponsor and a Toyota Chaser JZX100

MatsBaribeau

Mats Baribeau dropped some news on us this morning about a new big sponsorship and the working of a new car we had heard whispers about. The new sponsorship comes with Right Drive Inc. who happens to be the largest RHD dealer in Canada. They also played a big role in Mats stepping into a JZx100 Chaser for the 2015 season over his old JZX90 Mark II he had been drifting since 2008. Right now the plan is for the JZX100 to make a mid-season debut at Formula Drift New Jersey. The new car will be pushing 950hp out of a 2JZ engine keeping him eligible for the OEM constructers championship.

This is what Mats had to say on the new build, “The chassis is very similar to what I am familiar with as I have been drifting a JZX90 Mark II since 2008. I didn’t want to throw (away) the entire R&D that we have done, so staying with a chassis that our team knows inside and out was an easy choice to make.”

2014 Formula Drift Round 3 at Miami Homestead Qualifying [RESULTS]

Chris Forsberg won top qualifying circumstances in such odd conditions due to tiebreakers. The reason he won top qualifier today was due to him being first in the championship.
