The Scion FR-S has been the biggest buzz of the import car scene in quite some time. Formula Drift announcer Jarod DeAnda went behind the scenes of the commercial shoot and captured all the action from flat black Mercedes SUVS to helicopters with huge cameras on them. Vaughn Gititn Jr. in collaboration with HPI and K&N filters produced a fantastic chase scene around the K&N HQ in Riverside, California. The video has them traveling all around the warehouse property and winds up inside the K&N distribution center. It looks like they had fun shooting it and if Vaughn didn’t run over so many HPI cars they might have more than 5 to give away. You can see him demolish some of them in the ending credits. You can enter to win the contest at the K&N Facebook page. Follow the link below to the video!

A nice Monday afternoon just got a whole lot better after we found this Porsche destroying a great set of tires in the name of fun. The Porsche came courtesy of the Luxury4Play Faecbook page who highlights anything and everything about luxury cars. This is a snapshot of a Porsche actually at speed sliding around unlike most “drifting” exotic cars that are just spinning in circles so we approve.

The 2011 LA Auto Show has presented some awesome cars and one of those awesome rides in the Toyobru whatever collaboration concept we have been promised for what seems like years. The car exceeds my expectations already in looks and we only can hope the production version isn’t this watered down. Scion and Subaru are going to have a showdown trying to sell this one once they hit dealerships. We will get you guys some more information as Subaru releases it. What do you guys think of the concept?

An interesting hot topic in the industry you as a tuner might want to get behind and make some waves. Members of Congress are calling for an end of DOT/government resources to be used sweeping up grey market vehicles (such as the Skyline). In Canada a 15 year import law is in effect currently allowing for the import of cars like the R32 Skyline legally. Here is what WhiteHouse.gov has to say:
The Department of Homeland Security spends a shockingly disproportionate amount of its budget not on security initiatives, but on customs seizures. In particular, importers of grey-market vehicles have been targeted by monies taxpayers have intended to be used to secure our country against terrorism and terrorist activity. We call upon the Executive Branch to immediately cease this wasteful activity, and furthermore to change the DOT/EPA exemption time on grey-market vehicles from 25 years to 15 years (to match the vehicle regulations of Canada), recognizing that the 25-year rule was enacted due to support from special interests such as Mercedes Benz North America.
This could open the flood gates to importing D1GP chassis cars and even OEM cars like the R32 Skyline Chaser, 180sx, and many other cars from the 90′s as they become legal here in the next coming years. It’s about time the DOT stopped trying to chase down R34 Skyline owners with our taxpayer money. Good news might be on the horizon for importers everywhere.

Tyler McQuarrie took this FX Motorsports Development Acura NSX and dominated Buttonwillow. Tyler McQuarrie managed to take home first place at Super Lap Battle with the NSX and in the process set a new track record of 1:40.980. The record was broken on Performance Friction Brakes and KW Suspension which are both our website sponsors so congrats to them as well! Tyler McQuarrie proved once again he is the man when it comes to anything on wheels. We cannot wait until he locks into a team for 2012!

Normally we don’t succumb to supercar drifting or burnout photos that people refer to as drifting but this photo of the new Porsche GT3 RS was too good to be true and we threw it up on the website. Enjoy this image that the guys from British Drift Championship tossed up.

The brand Megablocks is bringing the Ford Mustang RTR-X to your doorstep with a 69 piece build kit that lets you put together Vaughn Gittin Jr’s 2010 SEMA creation. The product is branded Need for Speed and should be found in stores soon. Hopefully this will lead to some other drifting/diecast action in the near future because our Falken G35/Ford Mustang are getting pretty outdated these days.
