Wrecked Magazine Issue 21 Is Here

Issue 21 is here with the 2011 Rookies taking center stage on our cover this month. In depth interviews with Walker Wilkerson, Otto Graven, and Odi Bakchis put the team of 2011 on the center stage like nobody else has to date. We also grabbed J Brad (Team Falken Motorsports Manager) and asked him all the questions you readers submitted which made for a great piece. The Industry Insider sits us down with Efrain Olivares who is the agent for Kyle Mohan and Tyler McQuarrie. The issue pays tribute to one of our favorite Wrecked photographers Dan Jenkins in the In Focus Section. We wrap up with a look at the Retaks S13 and the return of Toshiki Yoshioka from D1GP.

Kyle Mohan Crashes Going Over 100mph into the Tire Wall [VIDEO]

Kyle Mohan Crashes Going Over 100mph Into Tire Wall at LVMS

This one is going to hurt as you sit and watch Kyle Mohan make contact at triple digit speeds (103mph was the estimation given by Formula Drift) as he contacted the wall in his Mazda Rx-8. As we reported yesterday Kyle was cleared by medical without problems and just some soreness from the wreck. This is the best angle you can find of his huge accident against Michael Essa in the Top 16.

Kyle Mohan Cleared from Hospital With No Problems

Kyle Mohan rocketed into the tire barrier last night in one of the worst Formula D crashes I have seen in history (top four easily). Kyle checked into the hospital last night after feeling sore as a precaution but I spoke with his manager Efrain this morning and he was cleared from the hospital without an issues. He is just sore from the crash that happened in the Top 16 last night. He also confirmed with me that the car is not totaled and will be repairable for Irwindale Speedway in October. I bet the KMR team is glad we don’t have a September event! The car crashed due to a brake failure.

Mazda Rx-8 Production Is Over

A huge hit to the rotary community and the Mazda drivers came yesterday when Mazda announced that they have halted production of the Rx-8. Automotive News reported that “lackluster sales and ever tighter global emissions standards” have put this car out of Mazda’s sales inventory. Mazda only sold 1,134 models of the car last year (2010) and sales have been down over 20% this year through July.

A few teams currently are enjoying support from Mazda including Bergenholtz Racing and Kyle Mohan who are the two most high profile Mazda teams. The Bergenholtz team has already been hit with a loss of Full Tilt Poker this season. While we could see the Bergenholtz Racing team going shopping for a new OEM it looks like Kyle Mohan will stay the route with Mazda with or without sponsorship. He is pretty tied to the brand through Mazdatrix currently and we cannot see him losing all that.

Cyrus Martinez Vs. Kyle Mohan – Crash on the Bank [SNAPSHOTS]

While Formula Drift at Evergreen Speedway normally brings us some of the worst wrecks in the sport this one wasn’t the worst we have ever seen. In fact, the pictures make it look like no big deal but it put a huge delay in the event as the last round of Top 16 and finally Cyrus Martinez announced he was unable to run again to finish the Top 16. If he didn’t make the announcement it sure seems like Kyle Mohan would of been a few minutes more getting ready as well. So the contact sure put some havoc on front suspensions at least. Follow the link below to see the contact.
