Joon Maeng Testing First Time Mazda Rx-8
Some video footage was located of Joon Maeng drifting it up in the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Rx-8. He is looking pretty good for his first time in this car. I spoke with him last night at a Mazda event where he told me the biggest difference in this car and his 240sx is the throttle modulation. When he could be driving his 240sx flat out the Rx-8 is more like 30% throttle. Sounds like quite the adjustment but he seems to be handling it well.

On Tuesday, March 2nd, I gladly got out of my bed at 3 in the morning to head out for my first date with the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto RX-8! Ron and I loaded up the vehicle along with spare parts, my new Sparco Racing gear, camera, etc. and got on the Freeway towards Walt James Oval Race Track!
I was astonished with testing the MAZDA RX-8! First time driving a vehicle with 604 WHP and 486 TORQUE! Those phenomenal Nitto NT05’s were smoking up the entire track and had plenty of traction and predictability! Bergenholtz Racing did an amazing job building this machine! I’m still trying to adapt with this powerful Mazda Trix 3 rotor Tial turbo Motec M800 setup.
It’s a plus that we’ll be on the ACT clutch setup soon. The clutch should last the full Formula Drift season, if not longer, with the brand new reliable/bullet proof ACT clutch. I’ve been running on them since my inception to drifting. I have total faith in their products cuz it’s the good stuff!

The guys at Bergenholtz Racing along with Joon Maeng are getting prepped for this season by getting involved in some testing in March. With just over 30 days until the 2010 Formula Drift season it’s good to see some teams testing, especially one with a new driver. How do you think this team will do in 2010?

Joon Maeng hit twitter to report while on the dyno tonight the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Rx-8 put down 604hp and 486 torque. Not some bad numbers for the screaming rotary engine running a sequential transmission.

All we really know at Wrecked Magazine is that sometime this week a big announcement will be made this week and put the mystery to rest. Until then, we are opening a poll to see if the readers have a guess at who will be replacing JTP. The comments section has been buzzing about Mad Mike Whiddett but we are quite skeptical. Some other talented Mazda drivers made our poll list which should have you thinking as well!
