We finally snagged a photograph of the Imamura LFA with the hood open. Casey Crittenden spotted this and confirmed the rumors we reported about it having a TRD V8 engine inside of it. We showed the car off last week at the Tokyo Auto Salon in this post here. We are itching to get some actual drift footage of this performing in D1GP this season!
This Lexus LFA was built by Yoichi Imamura for D1 Grand Prix duty this season. What I can safely say is the most expensive OEM car to be built into a professional drift car to date in the world. Rumor has it from reader Lexis King that this build features a TRD NASCAR motor and dogbox in place of the factory V10 engine. This is another pretty wild build to come out of Tokyo Auto Salon after we saw the unveiling of Mad Mike’s Formula Drift Asia RX-7 and Robbie Nishida’s 1000hp Nissan GT-R for Formula Drift Asia. Stay tuned to the website for more builds coming out soon!
Tokyo Auto Salon this year might have more drift car debuts than the SEMA Show at this rate of unveilings. Thanks to Mad Mike Whiddett’s social media savvy we found Robbie Nishida’s new Formula Drift Asia build. A 1000hp Nissan GT-R featuring a flat olive look and a Liberty Walk wide body kit. We don’t quite have all the specs on this car but it can serve I would imagine as a testing/learning vehicle for Daigo Saito’s GT-R coming to Formula Drift USA for 2015. No word yet if Robbie Nishida will also be running the most insane tire sizes for 2015 along with Daigo but we can assume, yes indeed.
Mad Mike Whiddett’s HUMBUL is here! The 4 rotor twin turbo motor looks insane and the whole car is on the top quality one would expect to come from Mad Mike. Tons of the aero is sourced from Total Car Produce Magic (whom we found these photos through as well, thanks guys. The car is currently at Tokyo Auto Salon sitting in the Garrett Turbo booth in Hall 9.
On January 9th (just a few days from now) you will see the unveil of Mad Mike Whiddett’s newest project called HUMBUL. Other than some sporadic photos we haven’t been able to get a 100% scoop on the deal. We imagine this car will be part of the Formula Drift World Championship unit for him since we have heard he is coming to Formula Drift in 2015 with a Mazda Miata already. Who is excited to see Mad Mike in 2015 with these new wild builds that are coming together?
Some rough runs and a poor start for most drivers wrapped up with some fantastic second runs at the Japanese circuit Okayama! The end of qualifying was enough to get me pretty excited for Top 16 tomorrow! Sadly some big name drivers will be sent home for the competition. This is the qualifying results:
1. Tsutomu Fujio – 93
2. Masashi Yokoi – 93

6. Fredric Aasbo – 86

The Formula Drift Livestream is firing up for this weekend at Okayama International Circuit found in western Japan. Our time conversion machine tell us that the Livestream will fire up at 3:30pm PST each day. Charles Ng is driving the Team Orange V8 Silvia and other drivers such as Ken Gushi will also be in attendance.
Check out Taylor Wright’s (BrokenImage) trip to Drift Matsuri over the November 15-16th weekend in northern Japan at the world famous Ebisu Circuit. The big Drift Matsuri festival saw some poor weather and smashed up missile cars wrapped up to finish out the 2014 Matsuri drift season. The big names of Japan bring out missile cars along with other foreigners who rent/buy cars to smash up in a 24/7 drift festival that lasts for three days. Drift Matsuri made our #1 ranked spot in our Top 10 Drift Vacations list we made earlier this year as well.
The particular V8 powered S15 Silvia is a build from Team Orange. The event is Formula Drift Okayama this weekend for a second version of Formula Drift Japan. This particular loan/car swap for the weekend has caught my eye since Kumakubo has been rumored to be heading stateside for 2015 Formula Drift already. Compound that with the fact that Charles Ng, with a car in Japan, is most likely guaranteed to compete in the Formula Drift World Series next year. Charles has his Infiniti G37 for the USA and has a Silvia already in China he uses for CDC. Does this mean Kumakubo is not coming to Formula Drift or has he given up on the V8 swapped Silvia for practical use? It definitely has us scratching our head over here at the office.
Daigo Saito has already given us a peak at new 1000hp D1GP car earlier this summer but now you can check out some more detailed shots of the interior and exterior of the car. The rumor about this car is that somehow it manages to weigh just around 2,200lbs making it an insanely light if true. What do you think of his new D1GP build?
