Tuerck (unofficially) qualified 13th overall today with a score of 76.8. In case you haven’t already picked a driver to root for over the weekend, this sounds like a good excuse to root for Tuerck! Our first video digging into our trip out to the Drift Heaven Spring Matsuri weekend at Ebisu Circuit is here. Just one week before we headed straight to Formula Drift Road Atlanta we saw Ebisu Circuit come to life with over 400+ drift cars take to all the tracks for two full on days of insane fun. The white Chaser with the on-car camera in our thumbnail is driven by Daigo Saito along with some other D1GP drivers, one hundred Australians, and a good mix of grassroots Japanese drivers.

The Streetwise Drift series kicked off this weekend the day after Formula Drift Round 2 with a big event at Gresham Motorsports Park. Kelsey Rowlings who we interviewed in Issue 25 qualified 6th but spun out in her Top 16 tandem run. Brandon Wicknick left Road Atlanta on Saturday and landed a much more desirable fourth place in the Pro Am Round. The biggest scoop of the weekend is Alec Holendell who we are told has been driving less than one year and is still in high school managed to land a big second place finish! Sounds like he is one to keep an eye on for the next few years. Here is how the results finished up:

The second day of Matsuri was even more wild than the first one. We got sync’d up with large groups of drivers running courses all day and put to use our video camera and photographs to document a great day of drifting. We traveled all the courses over the course of the day capturing D1GP drivers in action and tons of forgeigners banging their beater bought missiles from www.powervehicles.com around anywhere Ebisu has to offer. Just one of the awesome clips we captured at the Spring Matsuri Drift Heaven week at Ebisu Circuit was this group of drivers mounting tires by hand. This one drifter we captured on film could mount a whole tire ready for air in 56 seconds using his hands, feet, and a crowbar. Sit back and watch this awesome feat.

Sunday kicked off the Matsuri weekend with a near perfect day at Ebisu Circuit where we took in the sights, sounds, and tire smoke of almost 400 registered cars banging doors, fenders, and walls around all the tracks available at Ebisu. Thanks to our partners Replay XD and Enjuku Racing we sent out a team of three to Japan to take it all in with tons of video footage and some photo galleries to boot! Day 1 was the calmer start to the weekend with tons of drivers taking on north and school course through the day and well into the middle of the morning.

Jeremy Lowe is making his 2013 Formula Drift season debut at Round 2 Road Atlanta next weekend with some all new parts slapped onto his Mazda Rx-7. With the help of some key sponsors including Enjuku Racing, Smashed Tees, BC Racing and Turbo By Garrett he plans to step his driving up to a new level for 2013. Here is a quick interview with J Lowe to see how he is prepared for the 2013 season.

Edgar:Doing anything new with your program this season in FD?
Jeremy Lowe: The biggest change is the new partnership with SMASHED this season. They’re an awesome new company that has been great to work with, and they share the same love for drifting that all the little guy privateers like myself do.  Also, Turbo by Garrett hooked us up with an awesome new turbo that makes the car more responsive and a little easier to drive. On top of that, Enjuku has been a huge help, and giving us more support than ever. I cannot say enough about how much I love those guys!”

Edgar: How do you feel about the new judging system and what’s something we can look forward to in your program this season?
J Lowe: “I kinda like the new qualifying system, but I haven’t driven in it yet so I don’t know if I should say anything. But I like the idea of being able to lock yourself in the top 16 with your first run.”

Edgar: What track are you looking forward to the most?
J Lowe: “I think right now I’m looking forward to Texas the most because it’s a new track, and making it fresh for everyone kind of levels the playing field for the teams and drivers. Last year was a lot of going to a track for the first time and competing against guys that have driven there the past 5-10 years.

Nate Hamilton announced to the world today that the rumors we leaked just after Tech Day are indeed true. Nate has signed on Enjuku Racing as his title sponsor for the 2013 season. Enjuku Racing is a performance Nissan, SR20, Hyundai Genesis, and Scion FR-S speciality shop that has been involved in drifting for the past decade in some form.  Here are a list of his other partners with him for his chase of the 2013 Rookie of the Year title.

Ryan Tuerck has taken out his 2JZ Scion FR-S for a test day at Pat’s Acres Racing Complex in Oregon. The 2JZ built by Portland Speed Industries (same company who built the 2012 championship motor) set out to give Ryan Tuerck what he calls “his best drift car yet.” With the help and support of new sponsors such as Enjuku Racing and Air Force his program looks like it has some serious potential. Can Ryan Tuerck finally make a serious championship run for the 2013 season? He has come close previously but a new attitude he seems to have along with this new build could put him over the top.

We also grabbed Formula Drift rookie Nate Hamilton to talk about his upcoming season in the Enjuku Racing (rumormilled) / Hoonigan S13. Sadly his car was not present at tech day so we threw him in front of BG’s FC Rx-7 and started filming his interview. His car is currently getting a new wrap as we type this up preparing him for his rookie season of Formula Drift.
