With the 2012 season coming to a wrap following the next round of competition at Irwindale Speedway, Vaughn Gittin Jr. leads in points, but the shot for the title is still very much open. Here’s the tentative list of who you can expect to see at the final round of the 2012 Formula Drift season at Irwindale.

The 5th round of the 2012 British Drift Championship kicked off with a great showing for the fans at Silverstone, and resulted in a second straight podium for Fredric Aasbo, but this time in the Speedhunters/Toyota GT86. Darren Skidmore was on hand to put together a great gallery highlighting the best moments of round 5.

We stumbled upon this photo of Tyler Wolfson’s FD RX-7, currently one of the points leaders after landing on the podium at the most recent round of Top Drift, a Formula Drift Pro-Am Feeder Series. What we noticed was that Tyler appears to have picked up a title sponsor in the form of GT Radial.

GT Radial is already in competition use over in the Formula Drift Asia series and we wonder if this could be a sign of the Chinese manufacturer making it’s way across the pond to chase the success that Achilles is having it’s first year in US Formula Drift competition.

As the day rolls into qualifying you will notice some of the changes they made to the PBIR course. Last year they ran a similar setup but it was changed due to the lack of a tire wall against the stands and safety issues withe crowd behind them.

Now they made some tweaks and are currently running that super intense entry into some technical turns before exiting. The exit of this years track is actually the end of the old entry way to give you an idea of how the course is traveling. Basically the track is being run pretty close to backwards resulting in a high high speed beginning winding down to a slower finish up.

Several guys like Justin Pawlak, Yoshioka, Dennis Mertzanis, and Tony Angelo have gone off past the first clip into the grass rutting out the area. With the rain all last night they are pushing that area into a big mud pit so that good continue to get rutted and start resulting in chassis damage if more guys keep doing this.

We caught a glimpse of the turbo V8 setup being debut this weekend at PBIR in Pat Mordaunt’s Lexus SC430. In a photo posted late last week we see the SC430 over at Apex’i being retuned for the new turbo set up. How do you think the turbo V8 in the SC430 will hold up in competition?

Doug Van Den Brink took to Facebook to call out for help today, he is looking for a couple helping hands to help with changing tires and doing basic crew work this weekend at Formula Drift Round 3 at PBIR. He sent out the following on Facebook, if you’re interested in lending a hand, shoot him an email at his email address below.

Formula Drift driver Corey Hosford posted this up on his Facebook showing the changes to the track for this weekend at PBIR. The changes are of course pending approval from the Formula Drift sanctioning body after they run some testing on Thursday.

The big change last round at Road Atlanta was a grand slam as far as entertainment wise putting drivers much closer together for tandem and adding a new element of excitement to the fans watching or sitting in person at the track. Can the changes this weekend help push them over the top?

Nizam Films put together this great video highlighting Formula Drift Malaysia 2012. This videographer does an great job of following the action that led up to Daigo Saito’s first place victory at the event in the recently debuted Lexus IS-C.
