The Missile Car Trend Keeps Growing in the United States

September 2nd, 2010

Resident blogger Tony Angelo is keeping the trend alive by picking up a missile car Mazda Rx-7. Many of the pro drivers seem to be picking up cars that can be taken to the track and abused without the hassle of damaging expensive parts that come on the competition vehicles. As competition cars get a little more extreme I have a feeling this trend will continue to grow as the competition cars get more expensive. I have a feeling you should keep your eye out for this FC Rx-7 at the local Clubloose events now that Tony Angelo is a resident of New York City.

Drivers of the Vegas Weekend: Kyle Mohan and Tony Brakohiapa

September 2nd, 2010

The big buzz has been about the full Falken Tire podium but two drivers deserve credit that nobody has been chatting about. For starters, Kyle Mohan drove fantastic in his Rx-8 all weekend and pulled off a second place in qualifying. This performance secured his career best qualifying finish. He looked great in tandem which I hadn’t seen an A+ performance from him since Irwindale 2009. His Top 16 battle against Alex Pfeiffer I didn’t feel like should of went OMT but it was a pretty close battle. I think Kyle easily could of had a top 8 finish for the weekend which makes him a possible free agent pick up in Fantasy Drift.

The other driver who blew me away (luckily he is already on my Fantasy Drift Team) was Tony Brakohiapa. Deep down I always knew he had some pure driving talent but his Mustang seems to be holding him back a little with the constant issues. Some people he drove against had issues on his way to a top four finish but don’t let that take away from the performance he put down. He was running into the first turn so hot he ran into Vaughn Gittin Jr. on initiation which resulted in him finishing in fourth place. These are two drivers I would watch out for in Round 6/7 who could provide a shake up in the championship ranks with an early round upset.

Words cannot even describe how much fun we had off-roading with Vaughn Gittin Jr. just before Formula Drift Las Vegas. A nice public park behind the Air Force Base and the LVMS CORR truck course gave us every opportunity to test and enjoy this SVT Raptor. It was quite a treat to have Vaughn Gittin Jr. manhandle the completely stock Ford truck for hours off-road and then hand it back to us so we can take it to the hotel. It was quite impressive and we have a few hundred photos packed in a gallery of our day out in the dirt.

Ken Gushi Blogs About Formula Drift Las Vegas

August 29th, 2010

Check out Ken Gushi’s blog about the struggles they had during Formula Drift Las Vegas. They had quite some issues over the weekend but managed to keep the car together and Ken competing. Here is what he had to say about the weekend,

“So we just finished our event at Formula Drift Round 5 Las Vegas. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side this time. So far, the first half of the season has been well for us. This event sort of turned things around. First of all, we did not have adequate testing time to get the car dialed in for this venue.”
