Toyota to Carry on Formula Drift and Chase Back to Back Championship

Posted on Feb 3, 2016 In Formula D Fredric Aasbo Ken Gushi Scion

The former Scion brand and Ken Gushi has taken to the Internet and announced that they will be racing in 2016. It will be interesting to see if this corporate restructure takes a hit on budget and limits the programs of Aasbo or Gushi. Ken Gushi did confirm that he will still receive support for Formula Drift in 2016 with his Tweet posted below. I think Aasbo is set for a repeat championship or Gushi could easily land his first Formula Drift championship under the big caveat of what will change with each program and the money coming into it.

  1. Eddi Hughes says:

I fully expect to receive a “Toyota Racing” Driven 2 Drift DVD in my swag bag in 2017…

Well I guess I could just check Youtube… but whatever man.

  2. apieceobacon says:

So if Scion won the manufactuers championship last year but is now being transitioned into Toyota and almost all Scion vehicles are becoming Toyotas, does that mean that Toyota has a manufacturers championship or is it still considered a Scion win?

  3. Doof says:

    ^Who cares?

  4. apieceobacon says:

I really don’t care either way I’m just curious to see how that will work out.

  5. Curtis says:

Scion is Toyota anyway so meh

  6. Side note says:

What will Aasbo drive.. ? Thats all i care about

  7. Sanlis says:

We could see more potential toyota drift car on track , like new supra…

  8. Chewy says:

Sooooooo aasbo should drive his Toyota sponsored GT-86 he uses at gatebil or the RSR Toyota NASCAR motor one. Plzzzzz aasbo.

  9. Blaze1 says:

    ^ Ain’t that easy

  10. Is300 says:

Chewy having some sweet dreams. Lol

  11. WingZeroCustom says:

That GT86 He uses at Gatebil I’m sure isn’t quiiiit FD legal. xD I don’t even know if the RSR would be U.S spec legal since the FD Asia series is a lot more lax on the rules compared to state side.

  12. WingZeroCustom says:

Well looks like Tony is Selling his 750hp FR-S.

Hope it falls in the hands of someone that will run it good. Chassis proven by Gushi and Tuerck, Motor won Aasbo a championship last year. Its a perfect combo. Just needs the right driver now.

But with most FD cars and professional cars its gonna end up in the hands of someone who doesn’t truly appreciate it.

  13. Funny Guy says:

@WingZeroCustom Tony’s car runs 2Az Aasbo runs 2Ar so not quite “proven”. And about 120-200 less HP.

  14. Norwaygokart99 says:

I remember from an interview someone did with Steph in 2014 that he wanted just a couple more seasons with the tC chassis before they build something else because he stated that it is what they love to do. build race cars.

So if Scion backing stops after 2016 season i’m sure they won’t be uneager to build something new, despite if they win this years championship with the tC

  15. NUTTERBUTTER says:

honestly who cares. i work for toyota and dont care about there involvement in fd. but there new gt300 prius is the real mvp

  16. mike says:
