The Formula Drift House of Drift carries a large and famous name around drifting in America. It was the birthplace of professional drifting in America and has produced so many significant moments in drifting history. In recent years, we have seen Daigo Saito go undefeated at this track and we wonder if he will ever lose.

For the first time with the track change above, it appears Formula Drift will be running the complete inner bank for a competition lap. This will kill the media pocket that has been sitting here in years past which might hurt picture/video opportunities coming out of the event. However, the high crash impact zone of Outside Zone 2 over the past years is always the most exciting area of the track which seems to make or break a drivers performance. Now, this section is long and dragged out producing higher quality tandem runs from years past.

Personally, I go back in time to my favorite Irwindale Speedway battle in history between Matt Field vs. Daigo Saito and practically salivate at how good those guys would of been in tandem under this new track layout. Fredric Aasbo basically has the championship in the bag so a track change will at least give us something to chat about over the next two weeks. What do you think of the new setup?

It’s definitely interesting for sure. A lot of people aren’t going to like it, but so what. Ryan Sage said they’ve been playing around with this layout and I believe it will change how battles are run since it requires a different line, but I can see there being some good tandems coming from it. Hopefully they increase the size of the inner bank media box to accommodate the amount of people that will be there. After shooting there last year, I foresee a lot of people taking up refuge in that box during top 16 and on.

I think this will be good. It will make for tighter tandems and not as much running away by the “faster” guys.

Since it’s the last event, is like to see a the full top 16 drift the entire banked oval, with the transition inner clip at the start finish. At least two laps. Just for fun. Please.

Drifting just won’t be the same without Irwindale. RIP my friend.

    This is an “interesting” change.

I like the layout. a long wall ride is always good. it is one less transition though

also, it kinda sucks from a fans point of view that from the main grandstand we cant really see how close drivers get to OZ2. that whole wall is washed out with smoke.

I feel like they should run the first course layout FD ever ran at irwindale. I feel like that would be a fitting farewell round.

  7. Samurai Sam says:

Don’t worry, the judges can’t see anything that happens on the wall of the inner bank either. I think FD is hoping for more carnage so that the judges don’t actually have to make many decisions.

I definitely feel like the old layout is better. Tighter tandems and one less transition, kind of has me feeling like the layout is easier on the drivers. Which is kind of lame because they’re pro’s, so why are we making them work less?

And we saw Matt beat Daigo, Daigo’s 1st year in FD. In fact, Daigo hasn’t won every tandem battle he’s had at Irwindale, but I guess that’s what we can expect from the almost mediocre judging FD has to offer

  9. NUTTERBUTTER says:

should have just messed with everyone and run it backwards like in the d1 days. would have been fun. either way im going to miss this last round for the first time ever and last time it would seam. and i refuse to watch drift stream any longer so, with that said where are all the new final bout videos !!

Looks like Autodrome St-Eustache from the FD World round without the last transition, Its a good layout.

  11. Steven B. says:

The start line should be infront of the main grandstand.

If the startline is going to remain the same then the judging tower will block the view of everyone sitting in the main grandstand which would be fuckin dumb.

  12. SamuraiSam says:

The judges are up in the AC of the press box, remember? they moved last year.

  13. DonaldTrump says:

Run that shit backwards. Almost every driver has run 100+ runs(some likely over 300+) on 80% of this “new” course.

Come off big bank as normal and cross the infield and hit the inner bank wall from the other side. Then a quick tight turn back left like Long Beach in front of the fans. Track exit is right there too.

To change a course 10-20% is a waste. Mix it up. Last round. Last Irwindale. Make guys drive. Everyone already has a perfected setup out of the trailer

    This looks retarded.
