Falken Tire S15 Getting Prepped for 2012 with a V8

J Brad visited MotoIQ radio to talk about all the issues that happened at LVMS. The master of the Falken Tire throne talked about how they got the Falken Tire S15 from Los Angeles to LVMS. The car sounded like it was in rough shape according to TMac from Facebook. J Brad did announce that the car will be getting a V8 for next season and will be prepped to be more competitive as a “back up” car perhaps for the next season. That leaves this car as an option for backups possible in the future? I wonder if they will even take the extra step to haul it around next year with the rigs? Another car steps away from a four cylinder engine at the turn of this year.

Team McQuarrie T-Shirts at Formula D Las Vegas

I heard about these shirts all weekend but never actually saw anyone wearing them. Photographer Tram Tran however did catch the t-shirt wearing crew supporting Tyler McQuarrie all weekend. Maybe this was the group shouting out all those boo’s in Top 16 introductions to another Falken driver? They cooked up a pretty great shirt on short notice.

The front of the shirts read “Team McQuarrie”
and the back of the shirts read “Hey…..Anybody seen my car?”

Kyle Mohan Crashes Going Over 100mph into the Tire Wall [VIDEO]

Kyle Mohan Crashes Going Over 100mph Into Tire Wall at LVMS

This one is going to hurt as you sit and watch Kyle Mohan make contact at triple digit speeds (103mph was the estimation given by Formula Drift) as he contacted the wall in his Mazda Rx-8. As we reported yesterday Kyle was cleared by medical without problems and just some soreness from the wreck. This is the best angle you can find of his huge accident against Michael Essa in the Top 16.

Daigo Saito Hanging Out with Team Owner Gary Gardella

Former D1GP champion Daigo Saito was seen all around LVMS this past weekend. In fact, he was even spotting for Robbie Nishida who performed amazing this weekend in his Silvia. This photo with team owner Gary Gardella gives us hope that he can provide a ride for the D1GP champion a ride in 2012. He has been rumored and rumored to come stateside time and time again. We do know he has some spare chassis sitting around the shop back home in New Jersey so maybe he could field a ride for both of these guys in 2012?

Tyler McQuarrie Was Screwed Out of A Championship Chance – By the Numbers

I was working on championship opportunities today of who can win and how it would all happen for a post later in the week and found some shocking information about the opportunity Tyler McQuarrie had wide open to him and was stripped away by his own team.

Let’s go over the assumptions I made to get to this conclusion:
1. Justin Pawlak scores a 0 from his Ford Mustang not working. (You could assume he got a few points from driving the S15 but judging by how Tyler looked in it the car was far from competition ready.)
2. Tyler McQuarrie did amazing here last year and scored 104 points in the process. I used his performance data from last year and plugged that into his score for this event (subtracting the poor performance points in the S15.)
3. Everyone else for Round 6 I gave the performance they put on (everyone ahead of Tyler McQuarrie except Darren McNamara did pretty bad).

2011 Formula D Championship Standings*
1. Daijiro Yoshihara – 470 points
2. Darren McNamara – 435.50 points
3. Chris Forsberg – 429 points
4. Tyler McQuarrie – 420.50 points
5. Matt Powers – 418.50 points
6. Justin Pawlak – 399.75

Of course this is complete speculation and this is more of an ideal world for Tyler McQuarrie scenario I have painted out here on display but nobody has a way of disputing this claim anymore. Quite a few of the top tandem drivers he would of faced were eliminated early at the event making it even more of a feasible action I feel like. 50 points is a realistic hurdle to tackle for a championship win as well and shouldn’t be discredited. Tyler McQuarrie has performed very well at Irwindale Speedway before and anything can happen with the two drivers above him.

Kyle Mohan Cleared from Hospital With No Problems

Kyle Mohan rocketed into the tire barrier last night in one of the worst Formula D crashes I have seen in history (top four easily). Kyle checked into the hospital last night after feeling sore as a precaution but I spoke with his manager Efrain this morning and he was cleared from the hospital without an issues. He is just sore from the crash that happened in the Top 16 last night. He also confirmed with me that the car is not totaled and will be repairable for Irwindale Speedway in October. I bet the KMR team is glad we don’t have a September event! The car crashed due to a brake failure.

2011 Formula Drift Round 6 – Main Event [GALLERY]

A great main event pushing the championship in flux and almost locking in a Rookie for the Year. The event had some minor slow downs and one of the greatest Top 32 battles in history! Rhys Millen and Sam Hubinette put on the 32 battle of a lifetime. Rhys Millen kept on his top performance and old champion form this weekend resulting in an amazing victory. Matt Powers visited the podium again in his Team NFS 240sx as well. Drama and team orders overshadowed a great performance by Team Falken from the weekend and it is all captured in this 1,000+ photo section! The most coverage from LVMS anywhere on the Internet.
