This is a preview page from the August issue of Option2 magazine which is featuring a Formula Drift spread and the 2010 season recap episode inside the DVD. This is the series we were hinting at in our rumor post yesterday and only a few people guessed it would be Formula Drift.

This is a screen grab of the actual layout talking about Round 1 at Long Beach and Round 2 at Road Atlanta. What does everyone think about Option2 pages being filled with some American drift coverage in the magazine along with the DVD inserts? Who in Japan is looking forward to getting DVD coverage from the newsstands featuring American drift content? This is a huge announcement from Formula Drift starting up a bigger invasion of Asia. Is a Formula Drift Asia event in Japan next on the docket? We sure hope so!

The Team NFS drivers Darren McNamara and Fredric Aasbo are going to be busy this summer in between Formula Drift. The EA Games franchise Need for Speed sent us a schedule of where you can find their team drivers over the summer in Europe. Darren McNamara will be in his rotary powered AE86 which you can drive in Need for Speed SHIFT 2 and Fredric Aasbo will be in his Abu Dhabi winning Toyota Supra (pictured above). Here are the four events these guys can be seen at throughout the summer.

July 8th-10th - Gatebill (Norway) - Fredric Aasbo
July 29th-31st – AwesomeFest (Mallory Park, UK) – Darren McNamara
September 4th – (Trax Show (Silverstone, UK) – Fredric Aasbo and Darren McNamara
September 10th-11th – ProDrift Ireland (Mondello Park, Ireland) – Fredric Aasbo and Darren McNamara

Gardella Racing at Wall Speedway by Stephan Brooks

The results are in from France for JDM All-Stars Round 4 of the 2011 season. James Deane in the Low Brain/Rockstar S13 dominating his competition and took home a first place again. Why this guy couldn’t find a ride after his amazing 2010 half Formula Drift season is beyond me? He is back in Europe and kicking ass all over again. Here is the top three from the weekend in France:

The new August issue of Option 2 is right around the corner from hitting newsstands in Japan. The magazine is notorious for it’s loaded coverage of the D1 Grand Prix series in the past. This makes sense logically since the magazine is based in Japan along with the D1GP drifting series. It has been one of the leading series in the world but during the past year some cracks in the world wide series have cropped up.

Teams have cried foul and the founders have walked away from the series. Option 2 magazine has now taken a step to promote another big drifting series worldwide that isn’t D1. We have to hold out on telling you what series that is but we hope you can figure it out with some deductive reasoning.

A recap show will be featured in the DVD insert and the magazine will include some drifting coverage from the series. We are told the official release of this announcement will come out shortly (by end of week perhaps) from the series but it will be a huge announcement. This comes as a pretty big blow to the D1GP series who has dominated the pages/DVDs of Option 2 magazine in years past.

More Dan Jenkins action at East Coast Bash capturing some Sunday coverage. This even includes Chris Forsberg in the trunk of an S13. It is kind of like a Where’s Waldo game to see if you can find him. Tons of quality coverage once again to finish off the 2011 East Coast Bash highlight reel weekend.

Former Formula Drift driver Jodin Lejeune of Drift Emporium has been arrested by the Gwinnett County police force back on 6/17. According to the Gwinnett County office online docket he was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He was released on $5,700 bail according to the police docket. For those of you who don’t remember Jodin owned and managed the Drift Emporium team for several seasons. He also personally drove the blue V8 powered Infiniti G35 pictured below.

Before the 2011 season started they put up the transport rig and some of the cars (including the blue G35) up for sale on eBay. The orange G35 that was driven by Forrest Wang a few times got painted hunter green this year and was driven by Jodin Lejeune at Formula Drift Round 3 PBIR during the Pro Am competition. No word or update on if he will be back in the car soon but some of the other Drift Emporium cars we have been told are out in California currently possibly ready for some west coast drift action?

When we asked for a summary of the Circuit ICAR event we just got a reply from our DMCC photographer that was summed up with one word, “wet.” The drifting went into the night in Canada in Mirabel, Quebec. XDC and local northeast drifter Miro Ovcharik took home the victory in front of a decent sized Canadian audience.

Tanner Foust retired from Formula Drift with a send off at Formula Drift Abu Dhabi back in February. If you want to still visit him you can go visit Top Gear HQ (El Toro Field) in Orange County. They have some ticket dates open for July 12th, 13th, and 14th if you hurry up. If you plan on attending one of the Top Gear USA tapings make sure you arrive super early to get inside. The taping will run for quite a few hours to chalk off a good chunk of the day and note you won’t be able to bring in your cellphone so just leave it in the car.

Dan Jenkins shot up Englishtown for the famous East Coast Bash with 300+ photos from just Saturday. Watch as Formula Drift stars like Matt Waldin and Chris Forsberg mix it up with the northeast locals such like Steve Angerman and John Wagner. If your ever going to attend one local grassroots drifting event in the United States this should be it.
