Posted on Oct 5, 2010 In Formula D International Lifestyle

According to Gulf News and some other various Arabic news websites it looks like Formula Drift is coming into town in early 2011. The race will be hosted on the Formula 1 Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It looks like Yas Marina Circuit has announced that February 25th will feature Formula Drift on the F1 track. Teams have told us they are already making arrangements to ship cars over that way after SEMA. This is going to be one great event for all the drifting fans in the Middle East.

Awesome news for fd.. But that country scares me, they’re strict as hell.

    have you been there?

Its not really strict, just a hot Arabic sausage fest. Def depends on what time of the year you go, your whole vacation can be ruined due to a national holiday(do they call them that lol)

I did some electrical work over there for a whole month.

    “did D1 fail again?”

Its hard to say with this one, they have been really stepping up there worldwide influence. They made the WDS slightly better, and supposedly they are having the world drift forum next friday @ fuji. It will be interesting if anyone affiliated with FD will actually show up.

If there’s a time for D1 to make any sort of non JP comeback its within the next couple of months. FD asia is starting back up in November. And sema is less then a month away as well. I emailed D1 asking if they will be announcing ANYTHING at sema… no email back as of yet.

My comment was because D1 had this sheik guy at Odaiba earlier this year, I think, introducing him in the middle of the track talking about going to that part of the world etc etc thus me saying this. Did they make empty claims again?

  8. [...] Formula Drift has it’s yearly press conference in just under four hours from now. The rumor of the SEMA show is some serious schedule changes for the 2011 season. Our sources have told us that Sonoma will be missing from the 2011 schedule. In a few hours we will have some confirmation on this rumor but we have heard this from a few solid sources. The two locations that I would make a guess for new locations would be Texas and Florida. They are target locations for our demographic and have tracks that can facilitate Formula Drift. We also have heard about some additional big international announcements but the Abu Dhabi event is something we reported on already. [...]
