Indy Racing League Buys Huge Stake in Xtreme Drift Circuit [CONFIRMED]

Been to the bottom of the XDC website today? We sure have and they added the Brickyard Trademarks Inc. footer to the bottom of the website. Why is this significant? They are the owners of Indy Racing League (IRL) and we have heard rumors all month of a buyout/merger happening. Formula Drift is no longer doing demo’s with IRL they have been dieing to gain a bigger fan base since their series of open wheel has been lack luster for years. The Danica Patrick fury has moved into NASCAR they have been feeling a hurt and need some at event entertainment.

It appears that the rumors we have been abuzz about all month are true which is just crazy! That sure makes the Long Beach Grand Prix weekend a tad strange since Formula Drift is hosting Team Drift. We will try tomorrow to provide you more information on this series but this can only bring huge things to drifting in 2010!

Updated Dean Kearney S14 Photo – 2010 Formula Drift

Here is a much better photo of Dean Kearney’s S14. The team as we have mentioned picked up some new sponsors such as V-LEDS. They are also sponsored by Konig Wheels who has been a long time supporter of Wrecked Magazine. I really like the paint color he put on his S14 for 2010. I guess the only reason question left is can Dean Kearney outperform some of his other Pro Drift drivers like Darren McNamara and Eric O’Sullivan.

Tony Brakohiapa with his new Ford Mustang

Here is the new render for Tony Brakohiapa’s Ford Mustang and we are quite stumped. The car does feature a new look but lacks sponsors? The car not one sponsor sticker on it along with a race stripe that runs half of the car. The press release does feature a few nuggets of information like his US Army affiliation, why all these companies are not on the car is beyond me…..

Top Cover Racing (TCR) was launched in 2005 with the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen as its operational compass. The Tuskegee Airmen are the intrepid group of African-American U.S. Army Air Corps pilots and support personnel who distinguished themselves in World War II. Taking the name of the segregated base in Tuskegee, Alabama, where they trained, they were also known as the “Red Tails” for the distinctive paint scheme of their fighter aircraft. Compiling an exemplary record, they supported ground troops and escorted allied bombers and providing “top cover” on missions over North Africa and Europe. TCR includes direct descendents of the Airmen and the bomber crews they protected, with a number of original Tuskegee Airmen participating as mentors and advisors.

Brakohiapa is pleased to introduce new sponsors for 2010 – Wilwood Brakes, and Sparco. He is happy to continue his relationships with Sam’s Autobody & Paint, Glazier Ironworks, Cooper Tires, Seibon, Eibach, Go Pro, Enkei, Exedy, Livernois Motorsports, Griggs Racing, Toi Boy Productions, and Barn Style Performance.

The 2011 Ford Mustang V6 Has Arrived – 5 Questions with Vaughn Gittin Jr. & Joey Redmond

Grabber Blue 2011 V6 Mustang
1. How has the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 changed from years past?

Vaughn Gittin Jr. – At 305 HP and 280 lbs torque, it has about 100 more HP compared to years past and still gets 31MPG. It’s pretty rev-happy with a 7000RPM redline and they now have a six-speed transmission for both manual and automatics. The suspension is much more responsive by way of larger sway bars and stiffer dampers. They really stepped it up and it is an extremely fun car to drive, I never EVER thought I would say that about a V6 Mustang, The Mustang team continues to impress me year after year!

Joey Redmond - Just before I hopped into this car it occurred to me the 1996 SVT Cobra my buddy had when I was in high school only made 305hp. To pack that into the new V6 that scores over 30MPG is pretty impressive. Even the V6 now gets a 6 speed transmission and dual rear exit exhaust. With the power and performance of this car it takes the Mustang from rental fleet burnout machine to a competitor for some Japanese V6 imports.

2. Is 300+ horsepower really appropriate for a base Mustang?

Vaughn Gittin Jr. – Absolutely! The V8 has been 315 HP for years and I haven’t had any problem 100% enjoying those in stock form. The V6 also has about 150 lbs less weight up front then the GT. I wouldn’t be surprised if it would run neck-and-neck with the 2010 GT anywhere. Base model is only 22K; it is arguably the most fun, affordable car out there.

Joey Redmond – I am never going to complain about too much horsepower. It’s a good sign that Chevrolet and Ford are in such a horsepower war they are taking it to the V6 models.

3. Can you make the V6 a budget drift car?

Vaughn Gittin Jr. – Oh yeah, especially if you start with the V6 performance package which has even stiffer suspension, larger brakes, and a shorter gear ratio. Take it from the dealer showroom to the track, disconnect a wheel speed sensor, and you have a drift machine! Have fun all day, reconnect the sensor, change tires, and drive home.

Joey Redmond – Take Vaughn Gittin’s advice above but with a rental fleet 2011 V6 Mustang that way you don’t have to beat up your own. Make sure you get the insurance. The photo of the convertible above was the one I took around Los Angeles on the launch and it will lay down some rubber. When it comes to making a drift car we need

4. Would you own one?

Vaughn Gittin Jr. – YEP!

Joey Redmond - Going to have to press the pass button, I really want the 5.0 Mustang which our review will come out later this week. The interior upgrades are worth a look if you do want to buy one. They have a rear view camera that rivals brands like Infiniti and the setup they run. An A++ navigation system with Microsoft SYNC which makes driving around time a blast.

5. Is the RTR factory package available for the V6?

Vaughn Gittin Jr. - We hope to release a RTR package for the V6 later this year. We have everything ready except for the front chin and splitter. Stay tuned!

Dean Kearney’s S14 with his V-LED Wrap

Dean Kearney

This is quite an interesting look to Dean’s S14. He is somehow marked as a rookie so I guess it will be interesting to see how he holds up for Rookie of the Year. I really love the dark battleship color they have going with the car. Nice job to the guys at Intec Racing for getting this project together so quick.

Abigail Baker Vs. 0-60 Magazine Editor in a Drift Off with a 2010 RTR Mustang

As some of you know Abigail Baker is the girlfriend of Formula Drift driver Vaughn Gittin. A wager was set over at 0-60 Magazine that one of the editors couldn’t drift as well as Abigail Baker. Of course, our girl didn’t let us down and laid the smack down on some editor nerds who were out of place! The story is hysterical and written well along with a video that is 100x more entertaining. Nice job smashing on the RTR Mustang Abigail!
