Daijiro Yoshihara: Updated S13 for 2010
Posted by Wrecked Magazine on 08 Jan 2010 at 05:52 am | Tagged as: Daijiro Yoshihara, Formula D

We got some news from the Falken Tire/Discount Tire team about some upgrades being made to Daijiro Yoshihara’s S13 for a new season.Returning for a 4th season with the Falken Tire Discount Tire team is crew-chief and car builder, Scott Dodgion of SPD Metal Works in Anaheim, CA. While new body styling and a set of new wheels will improve the appearance of the brilliant red and white machine, engine upgrades and modifications look to push the 6.0 liter, LS-2 V8 power-plant over 650 horsepower! A new gear set-up in the rear-end will help Dai negotiate his drift runs with more predictability and improve the overall performance of the Discount Tire-clad drift machine!

*snores*
Dai deserves better.
dai deserves better??? whats better?? a lexus that is unpredictable and slams dai into a wall again?? he knows the s13 so well he could prolly drive with his eyes closed.
explain to me what would be better than a car that you know everything about
Media, he is not going to get half the hype/exposure driving this car.
Dai drove…
Basic S13: I think he had one year 3rd or 2nd overall in that chassis
HKS S15 (ex championship car): Dai earned 3rd overall
RMR GTO (ex championship car):Dai earned 4th overall
SPD Lexus IS: Dai got 11th overall
and now garage boso S13 with a V8…
There’s like 20 other drivers trying to compete with the same exact setup… while they are not Dai it is still something that has already been done and isn’t the most ground braking thing in the world.
I was hoping for maybe a lexus GS or LS (new ones), or maybe the HKS S15 with a V8. Or maybe a RX8 with what ever motor lol. Or even a 2.0 version of the Hyundai Genesis. Or the new Camaro, both of those cars would match Dais style and draw allot of $$attention$$. SPD can do it and falken/dscount tire can provide the funds!!
I predict dai having a year allot like last years.
S13′s are old and beat and have seen their day in professional drifting. Dai does deserve better. He’s competing aginst guys with suspension geometry that is 20 years newer. Good luck Dai, prove me wrong. Go big or go home.

Me personally I do not feel that S13s are dated for our sport (just look at D1gp). But I do feel if your gonna come in with a S13 in this series especially as a well know driver you better come correct.
I think anyone who builds a car like this should kinda cater toward catching the eye of the purist fan suffering from nostalgia from 2001-2005. And that isn’t dropping a big V8 in it, raising the suspension to wrc spec, throwing the ugliest wheels the sponsor gives you (mabey its just the ride height), and slapping on some vinyl.
Sorry, but I’m bored… and I was really expecting more from this part of the falken team.
BTW, no disrespect to boso… they build some darn nice vehicles.
2.0 Genesis or Camaro would have been my choice for the potential championship threat.
Dai deserves better? WTF is the the force behind this. I can understand why he might need a new car, but he’s done pretty well in an S13 before. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I do wonder what’s going to happen to Wan’s former Silvia S15. If Falken was going to give Dai a new car that would have been the logical choice.
Before the IS accident dai had not driven a S13 since long beach 07. Since when is a HKS S15 a new car?? The car has been in competition for 9 years now lol.
Every single driver on team falken right now has a car built around them except dai… who has a reject S13 with a V8…lol
Poor Dai
Cam.
The car will be amazing and competitive. Trust me.
Dai in Irwindale last year was a teaser to things to come.
Dai already had a new car built completely around him. Remember? Its the one he destroyed in Seattle last year. Maybe Falken isn’t willing to build him ANOTHER new car after they built two cars for him last year.
ive never been impressed with his driving anyway
thefuture. then you havent been around long enough. if you saw him in the GTO at the RBWDC last year. then you would be impressed
He was quite impressive at the RBWDC.FD sucks now to much horsepower in cars that weigh nothing and make the car super slow. Big V8 Torque Fest!
I agree about the V8-fest thing. I fact, weirdly enough, I was actually rooting for Rhys Millen in 2008 because he was running that turbo 4cyl. But I don’t like what FD has become. At least in D1 and the EDC/PD series’, there’s still a fair amount of people running their in-car door panels. So far, I can only kinda recall Ross Petty and possibly PatMo.
The original semi-streetable concept is gone from american pro drifting.
^that’s what happens when things get professional and money is involved, what else would you expect. You’re there to win, not look good.
A driver:
You think the IS was built around him? For Christ sake he jumped in to a LHD GTO coming out of a S15 and got 5th overall…. I think falken was trying to build Dai around the IS (mentaly).
I honestly think the car just didn’t have the goods to drift.
Ive alot of time for Dai, he has proved year on year he is an amazing driver and always up there with Tanner,Forsberg,Hubinette etc
Feel the lexus wa never gonna be competitive drifting after hearing info behind the scenes
Now Dai is in S-chassis that he knows inside out, it has proper V8 power, im sure there gonna make the suspension real trick and a quick change rear end,i can gurantee he will be top 5 next year
if anything crashing the Lexus was the best thing that happened to him
Just for the record Dai’s S13 is extremely fun and it works awesome. He also is very happy to be driving it. Scott has done an incredible job with that car. It is hands down the best S13 I have ever driven.
Its pretty rediculous everyone is so fast to judge Team Falken and the way they treat their drivers/run the drift program, based on a update to some off season work being done to a car. It’s almost like telling someone they deserve a better girlfriend judging from a facebook picture. Dai didn’t want to stick with the S13 he wouldn’t, its not like he is being forced at gun point. Everyone at Falken loves this sport and that should be obvious since they have remained commited since 2002.
They aren’t your traditional corporation, they are enthusiasts and fans of Drifting. If it was that cut throat I can tell you I would not have been driving for them the last going on 7 years.
Here’s food for thought. You all are right about one thing that a newer high profile car would offer better exposure, at least easier exposure. If Falken Tire/DTC didn’t care what Dai wanted wouldn’t they just throw him in a new higher profile car to get the exposure and not care about the anything else? That obviously is not the case and should paint a clearer picture of the actual scenario.
Go Dai!!
I was hoping he’d be in s15 again, just because it looked cool
JR, if Falken treated their drivers so well then they wouldn’t have booted Calvin out at Las Vegas so that D-Mac could qualify would they?
Dai should have just stayed with RMR.
I don’t think RMR had the budget to keep Dai in 2009. They were under budget overall in 2009 with their single unsuccessful Gensisis.
Dmac was deep in the championship race @ vegas. That’s why Calvin got the boot.
But despite JR in my eyes getting screwed in irwindale, if falken could have kept Tyler’s and Dmac’s race V8s reliable they could have ultimately finished 1.2.3. overall last season.
Falken should really invest in a overall backup car for the whole team. Actually that’s what I thought the LSx S13 was going to be for this year.
glad to hear they’re re-doing the look because it currently looks like a bag of sloppy boners.
there are some ignorant people posting – dai wants to win – plain and simple and an LS2 s13 is a sure fire competer. PLUS how are you still dissin his ride after the great Vaughn Gittin Jr just explained the situation and why this s13 is a perfect fit. Quit hating just cause hes doin something you can’t.
ps this cam guys a douche bag
^^Clarke…I have known that for years!! Finally someone is with me;)
Clarke:
I dont know where you get that we are hating on dai with quotes like “Dai deserves better”? The summary of what was discussed here is not disrespect towards Dai.
Some of us just wish that Dai would would get some of the same ground breaking and attention building rides his teammates have and other drivers of his caliber are being treated with as well.
How can I hate on team falken overall if I want them to invest in a backup car so they can keep all their drivers on track every weekend?
And seriously of course Vaughn is going to come in to rally for his sponsor and team mate. But he is human as well, and we all know he has had is rough years with falken as well.
Its too bad he was having such a good year but the evolution (coughnitpickingcough) of the sport bit him on the butt at the end of the season. I really hope he wins the whole thing in 2010 with the 2010 ford mustang.
Some of us are just plain expecting more! I honestly hope Dai has a Kawabata like comeback by showing the old relic still has what it takes to take top honors but I wont hold my breath…
Heather…. where the eff are you hiding? I’m glad you only come around when my name is brought up but we miss your old antics. Hope you and Clarke have a Cam hating blog trolling love child
It’s all in love Cam! Keep being all you can be! You are burning bright star! But I would’nt piss on you if you were on fire:) Probably like it too much..I will go back to my troll cave now!
Looks like Daijiro got the weapon he needed to bring to the fight- Great handling car (S13) + reliable and potent powerplant (GM LSX) + good driver (Dai)= Formula D Atlanta 2010 WINNER and 2nd in points thus far. Objective numbers do not lie. His new car has made him a winner.
