Right in front of Planet Hollywood they shut down Las Vegas Blvd. for the night so Steve Wyrick and Vaughn Gittin Jr. could conduct a magic trick for the 2010 Ford Mustang Unleashed series. This is the same video series that took Vaughn Gittin Jr. to Japan for some drifting and now he is in Vegas doing illusions with magicians. I decided for the event since Ford would have an official video showing you the trick out soon that I would do my best to bring you a behind the scenes aspect of the event.
They had two 2010 Ford Mustang GT’s in attendance for the trick. The one pictured above had all kinds of camera rigs above including this large structure mounted for the hood. This isn’t the Mustang Vaughn used to do the trick later that night but they used it for some special shots and pre shooting.
This is the structure being put together on Las Vegas Blvd. slowly going up. Vaughn ends up driving through this structure at a pretty decent speed while Steve Wyrick is hanging from the truss section to the left of the photo.
The top shot is Vaughn Gittin doing a burnout right on Las Vegas Blvd. which they had to do several takes of. The second photo was Vaughn’s reaction after he hopped out of the car from doing burnouts on The Strip.
As the hours grew longer they structure slowly came together. The blue and yellow barriers marked the entrance to the truss lining him up to run right over Steve Wyrick assuming he was unable to unshackle himself from the structure before Vaughn flew right into it.
Keeping the drunk crowds wandering around the area most of the time had to of been quite a task in itself for Metro police. They had about 20 cops securing the trick area and stopping traffic from Harmon to Flamingo on The Strip.
Looking down the entrance of the truss where the magic trick happens just about 15 minutes before it went off. You can see Planet Hollywood/Miracle Mile Shops on the left side of the image as Vaughn was doing some interviews just behind his 2010 Ford Mustang GT.
The crowd grew as the night went on and the structure got more impressive. The second photo gives you a good luck of where the magic trick took place. That small square centered in the image is where Steve Wyrick was chained up. As Vaughn slides up to the mark he has around 4 inches of clearance for his mirrors moving through the square. During the trick they pumped the area full of smoke so Vaughn was blind to know if anyone was in it the structure and stayed at speed while flying through it.
This is a techno jib arm that they shot the trick with for what I am sure will be an awesome shot. The crew had tons of cameras mounted around for the trick.
