2009 Spirit of Formula D Award: Taka Aono

Taka Aono took home the 2009 Spirit of Formula D award. The award goes to the most dedicated and determined drivers who struggle through a season and still prevail. I think the key for Taka Aono was his fundraising he did to make the east coast leg of Formula Drift this year. He asked for donations and in exchange he put your name on his car for the Round 2 and Round 3 event. Taka Aono has been around for a long time in the legendary AE86 and really worked hard to make things happen this year. This is why he took the award home in 2009.

awesome choice! it was also really cool of him and some of the other pro drivers to come out to the local drift event the day after fd road atlanta. he’s a super cool dude.
awesome choice… for sure. i would like to nominate all drivers that came up through drift buffet…. you guys all act like pros and make me feel like a true hero even when i am in china.. just doing my thing….
Very well deserved. Taka has been pouring his heart into the drifting scene ever since the time I heard of drifting. He has helped numerous drifting communities around the US and also coached many pro drivers today. Thank you Taka!
