Accident This Weekend at World Drift Series in China

This World Drift Series has been going on in China for several years now as some American drifters make the trek out to the communist nation for some sliding. For a long time we have heard rumors about lack luster safety and a disregard for anything at these events. That of course puts the spectators, organizers, and drivers in a horrible position.
From reports we are getting out of China is that the RSR Silvia above was driven by Formula D driver Ross Petty and he was on fire all night at the event. At one point he swung a little wide and flew through the tire barrier you can see in the top photograph. After plowing through some tires simply held together with a chain which was the “safety median” Ross unfortunately made contact with someone injuring them. We are not sure on the person’s current condition but we do know this person was there working as security of some sort and was not a spectator. We did choose to not post some photos we felt were too graphic and we apologize if you deem the ones we used were. Word has come out of China before with cars being flipped over without cages and things of that nature but this is the first personal injury we have heard of or photos we have seen. Our prayers/thoughts go out to the injured party and we are sure Ross Petty is shaken up pretty bad as well.

Must be great to throw an event in a country that doesn’t give a fuck about human rights. You know the poor bastard that got hit isn’t going to be taken care of properly.

Hmmmmmmmm, this event looks about as safe as D1 USA.
actually, the guy that was hit was not supposed to be in that area and nobody was allowed to go there. The guy that did get hit is ok and not seriously hurt. I have read the reports in China and can say that it was a total accident and Ross was not at fault in any way.
not to take away from the person getting injured, but that is not a 240sx! it’s the silvia that was campaigned by rs-r usa, driven by hayashida. before that, it was his personal drift car. it was pretty infamous and seen very often in videos and japanese drifting magazines. you can tell because it’s still that same lime green color underneath all the rs-r decals.
its pretty sad to see this happen to such a cool car.
Do people not get it??!! Your greedy asses all just want drifting to sell tickets you dont care about the sport at all. These bad accidents will be the death of us all. Imagine if D1 or FD wants to go to China, it will be so hard for them now. Geez. WDS, good job!

WDS neglects safety precautions again, several years consequentially. We came to TJ to practice on 15th of september. It was chinese drifters practice, where I participated. On the 1st practice day we had loads of crushing cars and even 1 flipped over R33. Too fucking bad WDS didn’t even think about how things can become even worse.
I think everyone who either like or hate WDS should understand I and Gary found the future of drifting and WDS drifting event became the top autosports event ever. This accident did warning us to improve the safty issues. I have to say thanks to Ross who was standing on the third place and help teamates won the nation cup 4 days later.

Keep yourself in your drifting world, don’t come to China, cause Chinese KFC and Mc didn’t taste like American’s. Drifting is not made in USA. It’s made in Japan and developing in China. FD is the great event,but it’s not the future. Jim should know that. right? Jim. F1 failed in China,A1 failed in China, ROC will fail soon…
but WDS is standing very stong in China. Please continue pay attension WDS.

Before WDS started in China, Chinese only thought D1 is the only drifting event in the world. Now, they know Ross,kyle,quac,and more Americans are the best drifters. As the internet magazine, you guys should not limited your vision.

thanks K, I will. Actually, Our stuff already told those officers to get ass out there base on WDS safety book which we has been used for four year, but they don’t listen. NO ONE ALLOWED APPEARING BETWEEN TYREWALL AND GRANDSTAND WALL AT PRACTICE & EVENT. we have car crash all the time, if those officers didn’t standing there taking pictures at wrong time, that’s just a normal crash, we changed the intercooler and piping only to fix the S14 at Hangzhou event.That car is better than any car Ross drove before.
D1 suck balls.. WDS is the shizzle.. Fast car, tight course, next to no safety, awesome drivers, no video option bull shit.. my vote goes to WDS.. D1 suck balls..
