Calvin Wan Vs. Chris Forsberg – A Formula D First [THE REMATCH]
Posted by Wrecked Magazine on 22 Aug 2009 at 04:25 am | Tagged as: Calvin Wan, Chris Forsberg, Formula D, Rumors/Gossip, Wrecks

So to make a long insane story a little shorter it appears Formula D has upheld a protest from the CFR team and are allowing a rematch to happen before top 16. This tandem battle will have huge championship implications and we mean HUGE since Ryan Tuerck (2nd) and Tyler McQuarrie (3rd) are already eliminated.
Chris Forsberg during his 5 minutes was informed by Formula D staff from our reports that he had two choices, either run Calvin Wan and continue into the top 16 or forfeit for a malfunctioning car and move to the top 16 but not be able to compete in the top 16 which is awful stupid. This was also announced the crowd by Jarod and we assume he didn’t make it up!
Of course Chris chose to run in a car that shouldn’t of been on the track due to safety concerns but who can blame him as the driver? His job is to win and he tried his heart out by track officials should of removed him before running the OMT runs.
Later it was allegedly reported that Chris Forsberg was told he didn’t have to run to advance and continue and Randy denied that was ever the case. So when Chris went and ran again did it not click that why would he be running if he could not run and advance? That whole mishap seems to have some gray areas for sure and it sucks poor Calvin Wan has to be stuck in the middle of all of it.
I think the decision should be over turned and Chris Forsberg should move into the top 16 on three principals.
1- Chris was not given a 5 minute repair time due to a false rulebook citation that the officials claimed. This was already established in my last post – Reality Vs. the Rulebook
2- Chris was told he could advance to top 16 and forfeit if he didn’t make another pass leading him out onto the track. How does that make sense? Chris was unable to run a car in good condition due to a collision with his opponent which means he should of taken a win and then had time to fix his car for top 16.
3- Track officials let that car out on the track to begin with when clearly that was not a good idea or safe for spectators/Chris Forsberg/media. That wheel could of come off at anytime during his run which is not a prospect or accident we would want the whole IRL community to witness or to happen period at a Formula D event. Since the car was not safe to run then he would of advanced per the announcements they made. At which point Forsberg and his crew would be protesting the fact he would have to forfeit Top 16 later today which would of been easy to get overturned since it makes no sense.
INSTEAD……
This is what has been unofficially determined by the Formula D staff. I have not been able to reach or speak with anyone from the official staff but I have been confirmed with two teams this is the case. Calvin Wan and Chris Forsberg will be rematching before top 16 to complete and re create their top 32 runs. This means the runs of yesterday are null and void and we get to see all the drama happen again tomorrow. This has to be the biggest championship related judgment call in Formula D history. Keep your eye out on our twitter feed tomorrow since this top 32 rematch will really make a huge difference on the championship and who has the potential to win it all at the House of Drift come October.
Get ready for the first rematch of epic proportions in Formula Drift history!

Its all a huge DA conspiracy!!! Tangelo made this happen from the inside to allow his drift alliance brother a second shot when he should have lost.
Actually you have no idea what your talking about… Tony tried to stop it. His DA status hurt him in this. He should have never been allowed to run and automaticlly moved to top 16…
I’m glad that SOMEONE can consult a rulebook around here to see that what happened was a complete joke. And for you chicken shit “fuck formula d” You don’t know shit and all you look like is a big jealous whiner. TA is the most knowledgeable judge in FD and absolutely the most honest. YOU try doing it, and don’t quit your day job either. Wan and Forsberg tomorrow/today, may the best man win.
C’mon, everyone knows Forsberg will win.
Hang on a second. a 5 minute rule is not for major structural repair to any component of a car. If an accident occurs on track between two drivers and one car is deemed undrivable or unrepairable then unfortunately guys thats what we call racing and its a biter pill to swallow but it happens everyday.
Forsberg on this case was damaged beyond repair in a 5 minute rule forcing retirement. This happens at every drift event but suddenly its a big deal now??? You can glitter up turds all you like but it still stinks. Wan should advance and Forsberg retire.
He forced a OMT by THE TEAMS CHOICE to run the car in the second leg of the battle. They could have forfeited and made top 16 remember which is a lot given the car was damaged beyond repair. They decided to run the car on OMT and lost fair and square and are now out of the top 16. would this issue have been raised should wan have spun on the omt and forsberg advance???
Its a joke and a mockery to the sport. it just raises more doubt about drifting as a sport in general with too much outside input on results, decisions etc etc. Drifting is fast becoming a soap opera series.
Red Tape summed it up perfectly.
So when are we going back to Seattle for the re-match of chris and Eric?
hilarious, “soap opera series” i have been involved with formula d for a few yrs now an honestly of this doesnt show you that the judges / officials are favoring forsberg then i dont know what to tell you! every event something is fucked up with the judging or officiating! it is purely a joke. if forsberg couldnt fix his car in 5 mins then hes out?!?!?! isnt that the way it goes???
on a side note,
i will bet you this, at the next event there will be another issue, and a drift alliance member will PREVAIL! stay tuned, because i will def make it known!!!!!!!!
doesnt forsberg still have the old hardtop as a backup car???
All this DA gossip is unreal. I am gonna start the falken gossip corner. Let’s just say “camp falken” was sad to see there only hope of a championship fall short due to engine failure. Tyler is super good and could easliy move to number one. So now that Tyler is out………oh wait, Calvin is still in and better yet he is going against Forsberg. What if we told him to just go for it and let what happens happen then maybe we could knock out Forsberg. Granted Calvin has a great track record for smashing cars let’s see what happens.
There off and Calvin smashes into the side of Forsberg damaging his car beyond repair. Now being that Calvin hit Forsberg he should be dq’d but the rules have changed.
So tell me what’s so far fetched here?
There’s a conspiracy theory for you all to chew on.
its all a joke, and i will say this, i feel bad for ryan tuerck / gardella racing, being that they are in 2nd place and Chris getting knocked out early really would help them advance in hopes of winning a championship. Gary and Ryan should take this matter to the higher ups in Formula D.
i am a huge chris forsberg fan, (but rules are rules), in fact i didnt wanna see him lose, but if he wins this event or even advances in the 2nd round formula d should be ashamed!
i would protest this shit out of this, if i were in the points chase for a championship…
sad thing is that most of these formula d guys arent paying their own way to race, the endorsements are, so getting knocked out isnt that big of a deal to them. if they were spending their own money to race you would see “a whole lot more” protesting, and arguing…
i will tell you this, if forsberg were a non-drift alliance member, all of the drift alliance would be on here letting you know how fucked up this situation really is.
just ask tanner foust and stephan p….
and btw…i agree w/ red tape. perfectly worded, thank you! jim liaw should read that comment!
The dangerous precident is that if Calvin was allowed to knock Forsberg out of comptition by hitting him and is allowed to advance, it indirectly rewards the collision and might encourage more carnage in the future. I think that if a driver in the rear collides with a driver in the front and the driver in front hasn’t screwed up (IE straightened or spun), then the driver in behind should automatically be eliminated, regardless of if it is the first or second run. This isn’t NASCAR – rubbing ISN’T racing in Drifting, it’s cheap.
Calvin Wan has no chance to do anything good for Falken this year outside of knock competitors out so his teammates can earn more points. The second contact was made and it was deemed to be Calvin’s fault, he should have gone on and that should have been it. no 5 minute rule, do not pass go, do not colllect $200
Maybe i should join Drift Alliance
Honestly, with that beard, how could he lose? He’s already won my heart.
Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat at night, yelling Chris Forsberg’s name. Then I realize he’s not by my side, and it pains me to think that I will only be near him again in my dreams. How I long to smell his musk… to look into his crystal clear eyes and see the moon and stars… to feel his manly presence…
WHY DON’T YOU TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR BABY CHRIS!!! STOP DENYING US!!! WE LOVE YOU, WE’RE A FAMILY, WE’RE SUPPOSED TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER!!!
Gushi should start the Gush Alliance. You don’t need DA!
Dear Formula D,
When does Eric O sullivan get his shot at Forsberg following an impact by JR at Seattle deeming Erics car undriveable at the last round. I think he deserves his shot at the win aswell?? dont you think?? Or is this a “unique” situation.
Open your eyes.
Waaah.Waaah. Fucking crybabies. I don’t favor the DA guys over any of the other guys out there but the fact of the matter is, everyone really needs to stop crying about the most ridiculous accusation that Formula D favors Drift Alliance.
This however, is a typical response to any situation like this in where one group is able to shine through because of sheer hard work and talent.
Grow up. It’s a competitive sport people, you’re not going to be happy with every decision or judgment call that is made. And honestly…the sport really isn’t THAT old. Everything’s gotta happen once before it can be figured out. FD has already made HUGE strides just this season.
Stop whining and move the fuck on.
And jeez, Calvin Wan should be real proud of himself for being worth nothing more than knocking competition out of the race by crashing into them. C’mon…talk about a joke?!
Like I said before…may the best man/driver win today. Sucks for Forsberg that he has to go up once again, against someone who doesn’t know how to drive or compete. Hey…maybe Wan will just crash into him yet again, and yet again cheapen the sport of drifting because he doesn’t have much real skill. Hmm, guess we’ll see!
a few photos of the bump just in case you didn’t see what happend

Hey Red Tape. Do you agree with the call that Eric O should move on to the next round? Do you agree that JR caused his wrx to no longer compete? If so why all the talk? Your acting like fd canceled the event and rescheduled the main event for the next day. If Calvin smashed Forsberg then Forsberg should move on (just like Eric O)and he would have 2 hours to fix the mess. Since there is a break between 32 and 16.
Eric O had no time to fixs his ride and that’s just the way that worked out. Let’s all look at the real picture.
And Erockone “just ask tanner and steph about this “drift alliance stuff”. Let’s get one thing clear sir unless you are steph or tanner I would not bring them into the discussion. They have better things to do like perhaps making there scion FD rulebook legal! Cause it ain’t G!
Wow. Look at those pics. Someone tell falken quick so they can pay for them to disapear along with the G35 videos.
Just SIMPLY boycott Formula D !
Lose your spectators = lose everything.
It’s all comes down to MONEY.
Time for new direction. Formula D sucks !
GO FORS!!!
fooorrrrrrssssssbbeeeerrg!!!!!
Yea I started that chant like 3 years back @ long beach. Glad too see everyone else enjoys it!
it’s neither drivers fault. A decision consistent with Eric v Jr should have been the call. 24 hrs to fix the car? So be it. It ain’t chris’ fault top 16 is a day later. A bigger, and scarier issue here is how a driver is permitted to attack a course in a dangerous state. Thank god nobody got hurt.
M.S.C for the win!!!
Wow, someones swinging on DA’s balls. Good stuff Dijja. lets see you battle Wan one on one you tard.
1.) Forsberg should have taken the win as Eric did in Washington. He would have time to fix the car for top 16, lucky him. That should have no effect on the decision.
2.) Formula D needs to fire their “chief steward” Now is their chance! He has been the source of nearly all FD’s drama and problems since he came on board. The only thing he does consistently is bring drama with his decisions. He brings nothing positive to FD or drifting but does alot to damage FD/drifting’s credibility.
3.) As has already been stated, Forsberg’s vehicle should have been inspected and NEVER allowed on track. (this is yet another failure of FD’s chief steward) The fact that he made 3 runs with a vehicle that should have been not only deemed illegal as per the rulebook, it was downright unsafe! While letting him on track in that condition is FD’s failure, FORSBERG SHOULD BE FINED FOR COMPETING WITH THE VEHICLE IN THAT CONDITION!!! They should have taken the win/loss or whatever they were dealt and then protest it from there. That’s how EVERYONE ELSE does it. Instead, they went about it in a way that put the themselves, fans, media, and their opponent at risk. That is simply not acceptable and is an issue that needs to be addressed.
I was there, looked like Forsberg pulled the ol “brake check” move for sure lol. but anyways, it’s all part of the sport, so you all need to get over it.
Broken car or not, Fans paid good money to see all their favorite drivers compete, and that’s why he was allowed to run.
