Ken Gushi was looking spot on in Sonoma and the car did not break/act up on him. He qualified higher than Tanner Foust with ease who qualified 21st. Here is Ken blogging about his qualifying day which should be interesting since he has to face a long time friend of his in the top 32 Robbie Nishida. Today should be a good battle between these two guys! Here is what Ken had to say:
First run, i got a 61.2 or something with an entry speed of 83.3 mph. 83.3!?!? i thought i was averaging 90 during practice!?.. Something’s up… I dont know what. Maybe me, maybe not.
The worst part of the story is that I was matched up against Robbie Nishida. WHY!? Why not match me against him in the finals?! That means one of us is going to fail to make it to saturday.
Oh well. As a friend I would like to wish him goodluck. Unfortunately, this is a competition so I am going to rip him up. Sorry!but something was not right. Also, I kind of corrected on the entry but other than that, it was ok…I think.
Second run, I was determined to get to full-lock half the time it would normally take me. So i initiated about 2 feet later than my first run and got to full-counter right away..BUT..
The speed gun failed i heard. So i don’t know how fast i was going but it HAD to have been atleast 5 mph faster than my first lap.
I ended up placing 8th place with a score of 69.9 and unknown speed.
