D1GP Odaiba – Tokyo Drift Expo Sunday [GALLERY]

Upon arriving, the rain had already begin, making this the first Odaiba round with a wet course. Slower entry speeds, less angle and no smoke would be compensated by the added crashes and wrecks that were sure to come. Oddly enough, Kunny was practicing hard from the get go and was really looking good in practice. Drift Samurai was the first to test the sponge walls out, followed by none other than the Drift King during his introduction drive/drift in with a yellow FC RX-7 convertible. The front bumpers and fenders crushed, Tsuchiya continued to spin and show off until he dragged the mess to the front of the stage and was greeted by “you meant to do that…right?” He just smiled and said “No, it was a big mistake!” and continued on as if nothing had happened. The rain defiantly changed the stage for the event and the qualifying results proved it.

Although he was praised all day, Hibino did not have what it takes to stop Tezuka from moving on to the final round. (though he managed to strip off yet another piece of Tezuka’s Aero) Imamura drew Nomura to a sudden death but ended up in the wall the second time around, leaving us with the two finalists. A rematch from the day before, Skyline vs. Skyline, Tezuka’s R34 faced R32 vs. Nomura’s 4-Door R34. Although Nomura was able to defeat Tezuka on Saturday, today was a new day. After several repeatedly even sudden death matches (yes, they need to stop calling it sudden death) it seemed like Nomura might take the win after Tezuka made contact with him and both spun. The slow motion replay was in conclusive and with both drivers opting to run again (as well as the crowd demanding it) , after a quick tire change, the battle began yet again. Tezuka stepped it up even further this time and ended up taking the win.

Northwest Evergreen Drift – May 2009 for Round 2

I love these grassroots films that pop up from everywhere around the United States. This one is from Abbitt Wilkerson/AW Film that takes place at Evergreen Speedway which is a Formula Drift track they will be using later in the season. Grassroots sliding from the northwest has never looked so good.

Rhys Millen talked to us about swapping in his Hyundai V6 and removing the Nissan VQ motor. Which he states makes the Hyundai much more competitive. He even offers some other teams a Hyundai V6 motor to try and help them out for the season.
