Formula D replies to the Circuit City Collapse

Curious as to what is going to happen with Formula D x Circuit City I contacted Ryan Sage over at Formula Drift to see how the situtation was going to weigh in the series for 2009. Yesterday in court Circuit City filed for a full liqudation of assets and a closing of it’s 567 stores nationwide. This would leave around 30,000 people jobless and Formula D without a title sponsor for the time being it would appear. Here is what Ryan Sage had to say to us:
“Well, of course the biggest thing for us is our relationship with the people at Circuit City who are now added to the growing number of the unemployed. We have many friends there (and a few very close friends) who are feeling the brunt of this worse than us losing a sponsor. That being said, it is a significant loss for us, but not one that comes at a major surprise. FD will be moving forward as planned going into 09, but it is no secret that this and the economy as a whole will have an impact. What that means, is still undefined. We had a stellar 2008 and sponsors have been supportive as they can possibly be. It is more important than ever for the community to band together and make sure we are not watering down or spreading funding for the series or teams to places that are not advancing the sport.”

“It is more important than ever for the community to band together and make sure we are not watering down or spreading funding for the series or teams to places that are not advancing the sport.”
Intersting statement??
What does this actually mean?
What places or teams are watering down the economic validity of FD/ 2nd part: its Superstars?
What right does FD assume for non series sponsors in saying your team is not advancing the sport????
What determination is made to designate a worthy status other than licensing for teams?
rather loose statement for a representative to make.
I doubt he is talking about teams. I would imagine he is talking about other series coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden mainly trying to just make money and not really trying to progress the sport. This actually is one of the worst ideas especially under the current market conditions. The good news is the sport is strong and the drivers are stronger and care about longevity not the short term. Supporters of drifting will no doubt see through the BS once again and continue to support the sport and the series that has done so much to grow drifting here in america
is it a shot at D1GP then? If so then good! I can understand that and see how that would be a threat to them. makes more sense. thanks for another look at it. Hence, why i asked what does that statement mean.
I’m not saying its a shot at D1 Im just saying its not a shot at teams. Are you with d1? Sounds like a familiar internet voice stirring stuff up.
I don’t think it’s a “shot” at D1. But I think that it applies to things like D1 and what they are trying to do in their own selfish, money motivated way. D1 USA is only concerned with making money and it should me made apparent to all potential sponsors of drifting in general what the motives of D1 USA have been for the last 5 years. A simple history of the amount of sponsors that have been given the “turn and burn” treatment by D1 USA should be enough to scare away any potential sponsor to their series.
not a D1 person. just was trying to understand the statement made. that is all! maybe i misread into it.
