1-25-2009 Mineral Wells, Texas Drift Event
The Fabricated Motorsports guys have already been killing the Mineral Wells, Texas location with Drifting in 2009. Aaron Losey and his Texas crew have braved the cold weather and started Drifting already. They also recnetly announced they are hosting a D1 Driver’s Search in Texas soon which should make their upcoming event filled with nearby talent.

As more announcements seem to be rolling in it appears the Florida Drift Championship has arranged a partnership with the D1 Grand Prix series. They are going to throw a D1 Underground Drifting Series over the course of 2009. What does this mean? The Florida Drift Championship license will be recognized by D1 and they will be able to bypass the amateur qualifying and move into the main qualifying round at events. The qualifier being held tomorrow in Gainsville, Florida will grant four new licensed drivers providing an opportunity for drivers to secure placement before the May 30th D1 USA event.
I received several documents and links based on this announcement but couldn’t locate a 2009 schedule for these events. I am assuming before the May 30th event south east drifters will be able to get another chance for a license but I will keep this updated as time goes by. The official D1GP USA website has a thumbnail denoting the D1 Underground series but the page is not live/thumbnail isn’t a link so at the moment we have no more information on the Underground Drift series. I am assuming that they are going to announce more partners like the Florida Drift Championship soon who will grant licenses.
For those of you more avid Drifting fans you probably recognize this S15. Ross Petty drove this car at the Formula D International Expo in Montterey, Mexico. The car just rolled out of paint at Garage Boso in a new rasta style paint job. The look serves the crazy man Ross Petty and we are ready to see him in action for the 2009 Formula D season. From what we know, the S15 and Ross Petty will continue to be on Falken Tires for the new Formula D season.
According to Aaron Losey over at Fabricated Motorsports they will be throwing the first Driver’s Search of 2009 next month. On February 22nd at Mineral Wells you will have an oppurtunity to get a provisional D1GP license. They are saying the top four drivers will be issued a provisional license from the event.
The judging will be done by two currently licensed D1 Grand Prix drivers. The price for drivers wishing to enter is $50. This event gives you plenty of time to gain your provisional license and get a care prepped for the May event in Anahiem, California on May 2nd, 2009. Hyundai Epic Lap 2009 Super Bowl Commercial
Rhys Millen steers a Hyundai Genesis into America’s living rooms for the 2009 Super Bowl. This yellow Hyundai Genesis marks the arrival of this amazing RWD sports car into America. We have seen tons of videos/photos of these things drifting in North Korea and many other teasers but now it’s finally here. They choose Rhys Millen to drive this car into America on the Road Atlanta track for this great commercial production. We just reported that we found what we believe to be a render of his 2009 Formula D car here so it looks like his Hyundai alignment is full onward.

The guys over at Drift Mania let us know that the original release has been updated so we wanted to give you the most up to date schedule for the west coast. The British Columbia event has moved dates from June to August and changed city locations. We have also been promised the Calgary date and venue very soon.

Insane Wreck at Fuji Speedway – D1 Grand Prix
This is a wreck most of you have probably seen before we wanted to revisit it again. I mean who doesn’t want to enjoy some amazing wrecks over and over again? Kyle Mohan 2008 Year in Review
Enjoy this video as you fly through the 2008 season with Kyle Mohan and his Mazda Rx-7. The video is made by Dead Pirate Productions and highlights Kyle Mohan’s drifting across the 2008 Formula D series. Kyle started off the season with a bang by finishing in fourth place at the Streets of Long Beach and never really looked back fighting for each position over the rest of the year.

Below are some notes from the Drift Mania PR:
In 2009 & 2010, the East and West coast divisions will run separately from one other. While the east coast division is planned to keep growing at a similar rhythm it has been for the past 3 years, the objective for the western division is to catch-up with the east coast. A two year timeframe is planned for the west coast to achieve such a goal.
