A bad sign for 2009 - Bridgestone Tires Drifting Site is Gone
Posted by Wrecked Magazine on 25 Oct 2008 at 03:49 am | Tagged as: Daijiro Yoshihara, Formula D, Rhys Millen

Browsing around and doing some pre SEMA website hunting for Drifting information on the Internet we noticed that the Bridgestone Drifting subsite has been removed from the Bridgestone company website. Judging that Bridgestone is a huge company with agencies behind their web promotion it would appear that the website disappearing is no mistake. After three years involved with Formula D they put rubber on many drivers and made a great impact in the sport. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of economic things to come. If they have left drifting we will need to stay tuned to where Rhys Millen and Daijiro Yoshihara will wind up in 2009. Hopefully we can get you more information when it becomes available.

I was hearing something about this at FD Irwindale. I can’t remember who said it though. I think we were talking about how things are going to change for next season and it was brought up. I’m really curious to see where they end up for ‘09.
I don’t think the drivers will have much problem finding another sponsor.
Bridgestone’s involvement with Formula 1 racing and the massive budgets involved could have a lot to do with this decision, as well as the current economic situation.
Personally I think that drifting is closer related to everyday driving than Formula 1 so whether it’s a good marketing choice is a debateable point…
