NOPI Drift is no more!
Posted by Wrecked Magazine on 16 Jul 2008 at 10:14 am | Tagged as: Major Announcements, NOPI
We have confirmed with as many sources as we can that this is an official announcement. NOPI Nationals will cease to exist and same with NOPI Englishtown. For those who have attended events of the series this year it shouldn’t really come as a shock.
July 16, 2008 It is with great regret that NOPI Motorsports, LLC has suspended operations for the summer and fall 2008. This will include NOPI Drag Racing Series, NOPI Drift Series and the NOPI NATIONALS Motorsports Supershow. The company is undergoing an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season. The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events. Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live. The countrywide economic and industry downturn has caused a slowdown and tightening of belts. This affects everyone and companies, at all levels, and NOPI Motorsports is no different. We understand the position this puts everyone in and we hope you can find in your heart to work with us through this terrible time. All of you are our friends and we have felt for many years that we were all a big family.
NOPI Motorsports hates this more than anyone as the many years of hard work, tradition and an industry we helped to shape would come to this.
Please watch nopi.com for future announcements.

oh noes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, I didn’t really expect this so soon. Whell the Grassroots events will be much more exciting due to the influx of awesome drivers not going to these events.
“cease to exist” not “seize to exist”
AHHH CRAP!
I can believe Nopi Drift having a turn for the worst but to see it spread to other successful venue’s like the NDRA is a real tragedy. Drifting for the most part can be a somewhat affordable venture (minus full blown pro teams) but when drag racing comes up…these people dump money into these cars, rebuilding motors, etc. I really fear for what will happen to these these teams, the sponsorships, and the direction the industry will take after this.
with only 2 events left too!
no supershow!?
Damn, does this mean they are going to nix the points championship and the whole season has been for not? That’s a real bummer for the leaders and their sponsors.
Hey video guy, the NDRA has been a struggling venture for a while, Why do you think they wanted to get into drifting?
Good news though, there are still a few opportunities to qualify for the USD Pro-Am Nationals at GTLive (where there will be FD licenses awarded).

Weak. I was having good times, even if there were only 24 drivers at events, it was still fun.
Yeah I was waiting for someone to inform me of the success of that series. It just sucks to see all the effort and sweat that these driver’s, teams, and sponsors put into the cars for what is basically nothing now…a lost cause. From professional racing/drifting teams to the people building up their ride to compete at Nopi Nationals or other Nopi car show.
I just hope something else can fill the void and quick.
i just feel bad for the drivers. all that time and effort invested. and nearly nothing to show for it in the end.
heard the rumor in the FD pits over the weekend… Unfortunately, NOPI had all the wrong ideas when it came to motorsports. They got into drag racing when it was so hot that nobody could do no wrong. Now that the drag racing bubble has popped, they figured they could throw a drifting series and ride the wave to mass profits. Unfortunately, they did everything wrong, and didn’t listen to the people who knew the market and advised them on the golden road.
Sucks that they burned so many sponsors and competitors on the way, as now many of them may not re-invest into the sport.
that sucks. I was looking forward to at least the nationals.
[...] no more NOPI this year Wrecked Magazine Blog – Drifting’s #1 source of information and stupid!
Wow, this really sucks. I feel for everyone busting their ass to moving up in the drifting scene. I hope Nopi is able to revamp it soon as possible.
Awww shit. How am I gonna see B-level whores with bad boob jobs slutting themselves out infront of donks now at a drift event? Who will fill this void? Formula D??? I thinkkkkkk not.
Look what you’ve done NOPI, you’ve forced me to attend Hot Import Nights and rep my set. I gotta get my fill of beginner driver magnets on cars somehow. Rock on NOPI, you ran the events perfectly.
Dudes, I am a moron.

This is a low-blow to all the competitors in this series that busted their asses to make it to these events and now they do not have a whole lot to show for it.
This series died for a few reasons:
Poor management
Poor representation of sponsors
Poor performance from employees
Big round of applause to all those that spent their efforts and hard earned dollars to make it to these events. I believe that I am alone when I say that I feel bad that things turned out this way for you guys.
Mikespeed killed NOPIdrift.
NOPI sucked before the economy sucked.
i have to agree with critic.
this kinda sucks to see happen.
Here’s a start Nopi…. Don’t name it Nopi Drift.
I love mike peters. he makes my penis swell with excitement. and wrecked magazine makes the world turn.
i heard wrecked magazine has its own gravitational pull.
i heard a bullfrog.
or did i just fart?
haha too bad nopi drivers.. do they still get sent to pro am lol.
Nopi has nothing to do with Pro-Am…
The economy is a great easy out, very original pr……. This is what happen’s when you sell lies. One day they will learn…oh they did..If they would have come in knowing there roll with regards to drifting. Instead of working to grow the sport and offer a official way for up and coming drivers they tried to head to head with a real pro series. I cant believe they made a strong industry look weak with a bs Press release like this…but in reality it should not surprise I guess!
It just sucks that all the drivers and sponsors that have been duped now have a bad taste. I hope something much better and interested to help the drivers grow will replace this very soon.
That sucks man, nopi drift opened many doors…
but hopefully with some doors now shut, a window will be open.
oops i did it again
